Femke Bol, Joshua Cheptegei and Jakob Ingebrigtsen are among the first stars announced for Athletissima, the sixth meeting in this season’s Wanda Diamond League series, in Lausanne on 30 June.

Cheptegei is world record-holder in the 5000m and 10,000m and in Lausanne the Ugandan Olympic and world gold medallist will contest the shorter of those events. He finished third in the 5000m at the 2017 edition of the meeting and fourth in 2019 – the year he claimed the overall Diamond League title.

His fellow world record-holders Bol and Ingebrigtsen will also be in action, with Dutch star Bol, who ran a world indoor 400m record in February, on the hunt for a third consecutive Athletissima victory in the 400m hurdles. Norway’s world indoor 1500m record-holder Ingebrigtsen races that distance in Lausanne, where last year he clocked 3:29.05 to win.

Bol claimed world 400m hurdles silver last year in Oregon, where Ingebrigtsen took the 5000m title and secured 1500m silver. They will be joined by fellow global medallists Mujinga Kambundji and Simon Ehammer in Lausanne, the home stars contesting the 100m and long jump, respectively.

Bol has also been announced for the Golden Gala, the third Diamond League meeting of 2023, in Florence on 2 June. The 23-year-old has already won the 400m hurdles Diamond Trophy twice, in 2021 and 2022, and she will be hoping for another strong season to complete a hattrick of titles.
