Didrikson as well as a super-talented athlete was one of the top US basketball players in the early 1930s. At the 1932 US Olympic Trials, she qualified in all five events then on the Olympic programme, winning the 80m hurdles, high jump and javelin throw as well as taking titles in three other non-Olympic events. Didrikson was only allowed to compete in three disciplines at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics winning the javelin throw, setting a world record in the 80m hurdles and finishing with silver in the high jump, also with a world record.
