2 May 2001 -   Brisbane - Maurice Greene, the Olympic champion and world record holder at 100 metres, landed Wednesday in Australia to embark on a promotional tour for the Aug. 29-Sept. 9 Goodwill Games in Brisbane.

The world's fastest sprinter is a major draw card for the Goodwill Games, which is being staged for the first time outside of the United States or the former Soviet Union.

Ato Boldon, the 1997 200m World champion and Olympic silver medallist, will join Greene on the whirlwind promotional tour which includes functions in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Marion Jones, who won five Olympic medals in Sydney and is also defending Goodwill Games women's champion over the 100 and 200, will also be among 1,300 athletes competing in 12 sports at the invitation-only Goodwill Games.

The track and field competition will consist of 44 events – 22 for men, 22 for women - in a finals-only format.

All first-place finishers in athletics events will receive U.S. dlrs 20,000, except for the winner of the women's steeplechase, which is a non-championship event.

Additional bonuses will be awarded for various records and personal bests, up to U.S. dlrs 100,000 for a world record.
