Women Hammer Throw Final

Gold MedallistMihaela MELINTE (ROM)
"I felt very confident coming here. The only thing I was a little worried about was Kuzenkova's form. It was a good day for me. During the three first throws I felt quite good, they were technically the best, too. Then the heat was getting to me, there were by far too many competitors out there. If the conditions were better the last throw could have been one to two meters longer. I owe much of this victory to my coach Teodoru Agache."
Silver Medallist - Olga KUZENKOVA (RUS)
"Obviously Melinte's first attempt showed the way the competition would go. Of course you know that normally the first big throw dominates and usually wins the championship. That is life. I think we must change our view on how hammer girls should look. Yes my secret is not the power but the speed."
Bronze Medallist - Lisa MISIPEKA (AMS)
"Oh my gosh! I didn't realize I had third place. I thought it was fourth. I tried to indicate to my coach but he was so far away in the spectator seats, i could not see the signs he was making to me. I didn't think a medal is possible. My last competition was in June! There just isn't the money for my event. So with my coach I just tried to imitate competition situations during my training. It was a challenge to compete against Melinte. However, I am not satisfied with my technique. I take four turns in the circle and only three of them in each throw were right. So there is a lot more to come in terms of distance."
