Cali, Colombia - The assembly of the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Confederation (CACAC) re-elected Puerto Rico's Victor Lopez as President for another four-term period.
Meeting on Sunday (6 July) at the Intercontinental Hotel on the last day of the 21st CAC Championships, Lopez obtained 20 votes to defeat Saint Vincent and Grenadines' Keith Joseph, the other contestant, who received eight.
The First, Second and Third Vice-presidents were also elected: Alan Jean Pierre of Haiti, Jesús Molina of Cuba, Alpheus Finlayson of the Bahamas, who received 20, 17 and 15 votes, respectively.
Lopez, who served as Rice University Head Coach for 26 years, was elected CACAC President in Maracaibo, Venezuela, en 1998. He was then re-elected in Grenada in 2003. The Puerto Rican also chairs the IAAF Coaches’ Commission.
Three members were also selected to the CACAC Board: Estherd Maynard of Barbados (25 votes), Ramiro Varela of Colombia (20) and Ray O'Neal of the British Virgin Islands. Cuba will host the next CAC Senior Championships in 2009 and the Dominican Republic will organize the CAC Junior Champs in 2010.

Victor Lopez réélu à la présidence de la Cacac
Cali (Colombie) – L'assemblée générale de la Confédération d'athlétisme d'Amérique centrale et des Caraïbes a réélu le Portoricain Victor Lopez à sa présidence, pour un nouveau mandat de quatre ans.
Lors de sa réunion à l'Hôtel Intercontinental du dimanche 6 juillet, dernière journée des 21èmes Championnats de la CAC, M. Lopez a obtenu 20 voix contre 8 à son adversaire Keith Joseph, représentant Saint-Vincent-et-les Grenadines.
Les premier, deuxième et troisième vice-présidents ont également été élus : Alan Jean Pierre d'Haïti, Jesús Molina de Cuba et Alpheus Finlayson des Bahamas, avec respectivement 20, 17 et 15 voix.
Victor Lopez, qui a été entraîneur en chef de la Rice University pendant 26 ans, avait été élu pour la première fois à la présidence de la Cacac en 1998 à Maracaibo (Vénézuéla). Il a ensuite été réélu à la Grenade en 2003. Le Portoricain préside également la Commission des entraîneurs de l'IAAF.
Trois nouveaux membres ont intégré le Conseil d'administration de la Cacac : Esther Maynard de la Barbade (25 voix), Ramiro Varela de la Colombie (20) et Ray O'Neal des Iles Vierges britanniques. Par ailleurs, Cuba accueillera les prochains Championnats seniors de la CAC en 2009, alors que la République dominicaine organisera les Championnats juniors de la CAC en 2010.
