With the battle to find the world’s fastest women's indoor sprinter culminating with the finals of the 60 metres at the 9th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on the evening of Friday 14 March, three of Europe’s top sprinters will line up for a dress rehearsal in Gent, Belgium on 9 February.
At the Energizer Indoor Vlaanderen Gent meeting, Ukraine’s Zhanna Block, as she now prefers to be called, who was the fastest woman at 100m in the world last year and is the reigning World 100m champion, will battle over 60m with Belgium’s European Indoor 60m champion Kim Gevaert, and European indoor and outdoor 200m champion, Muriel Hurtis of France.
Earlier this week Block confirmed that, "it's a massive indoor season for me. I'm delighted that I get the chance to compete against two of my main rivals so early in the season when we meet in Belgium."
With Block, Gevaert and Hurtis set to compete in all four meetings, the women’s 60m will be one of the highlights of the 2003 Energizer EuroSeries, with a potential 20,000 Euros in prize money for whoever comes out on top in the event. The other meets are Stockholm on February 18, Birmingham on February 21, before the final in Lievin on February 23.
