At the 7th edition of the international Pole Vault meeting in Beckum, Germany, yesterday, Sunday 21 August, 24-year-old Anna Rogowska, the Olympic bronze medallist, set a new Polish record 4.82m.

With the help of the 3000 enthusiastic spectators in Beckum, a small town close to Dortmund, the Pole cleared the record height on her second attempt. She then attacked 4.90m, and all three of her attempts looked very close.

“I can jump that mark in the near future” Rogowska said, “after my disappointment in Helsinki where I only jumped 4.35 (6th equal) I wanted to the show that I am the best Polish pole vaulter.”

Behind the winner, Russian champion and 4th place winner at the World Championships Tatjana Polnova finished second with a seasonal best of 4.52m.

Third placer Silke Spiegelburg, the 2005 European Junior champion equalled the national junior record of Yvonne Buschbaum with 4.42m for third place. After that she attempted to clear the World Junior record but failed three times at 4.52m.
