Due to the lack of an indoor track of international standard in Denmark, the national championships have been staged in Malmö, Sweden (!) since 1994.

Drawing most attention this weekend (25-26 February) will undoubtedly the Men’s Shot Put competition where reigning Europan Indoor champion, Joachim B. Olsen, is to participate. By producing a put of 21.10 metres two weeks ago in Valencia (11/2) at his only appearance this year, the big man sent a clear message to his competitors that he’s back in business after the injury he suffered back in November.

The only Danish athlete to join him at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow will be the 23-year old Morten Jensen, who at the Samsung Eurojump in Gothenburg (8 Feb) set a new National record when winning the men’s Long Jump with a length of 8.18m. In Malmö the promising Dane, fourth in the current season’s world indoor list, will also be a strong contender for the 200m title.

If Denmark’s delegation to Moscow is to gain a third participant this is most likely to be Anders Møller in the men’s Triple Jump. In order to obtain the tough entry standard of 16.80m he would however, havew to improve his own national record.
