Monte CarloThe IAAF has been one of the leading International Sports’ Federations in the fight against doping in sport for more than 30 years, helping to introduce accreditation of anti-doping labs, out-of-competition testing and blood testing amongst other things.
But the IAAF’s permanent commitment against cheating in Sport is part of a wider struggle and it is important that anti-Doping information is made available to as many athletes, coaches, officials, doctors, physiotherapists and fans as possible.
It’s for this reason that we proudly introduce a new Anti-Doping section of the IAAF website. The Commission welcomes this step and we hope that it will be a useful tool not only by listing Anti-Doping rules and procedures but by explaining the real health risks of using prohibited substances.
It is only by sharing knowledge through education that the IAAF and the Athletics Family can build a healthier and cleaner sport.
The IAAF has recently merged the former IAAF Medical Committee and IAAF Anti-Doping Commission into one Medical and Anti-Doping Commission. The Medical Commission, led by IAAF Senior Vice-President Prof. Arne Ljungqvist, left an outstanding legacy and the members of the new Commission hope to be able to build on these foundations.
In it’s first ever meeting on 23-24 January 2004, the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission decided to reinforce the educational and information aspects of our Medical and Anti-doping work. To this end, the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission will work closely with the IAAF Communications Department to offer updated contents and to make the Anti-Doping section of the website dynamic and friendly.
LET’S FIGHT FOR HEALTHY AND CLEAN ATHLETICS!
Best regards,
Juan Manual Alonso
IAAF Medical and Anti-doping Commission Chairperson
