Lornah Kiplagat who holds the fastest time ever for 10 Miles is ready to concentrate on the track, following her Dutch record of 30:12.53, when finishing fourth in Saturday's women's 10,000m final in Paris 2003 Saint-Denis.

The 29-year-old, who last month switched nationality from Kenyan to Dutch, narrowly missed a medal as she finished fourth in a classic race. As well as setting a Dutch record she was also inside the Kenyan record of 30:32.03, held by Tegla Loroupe, and she believes she will now enjoy more success on the track than she has on the roads.

She will run the New York City Marathon in November but will then turn her back on the roads in a bid to make it on the track.

Before then she is entered for the 5000m in Paris, which gets underway with the heats tonight, but it is next year she really has her sights on. She says: “I want to run the 10,000m in Athens at next year’s Olympics. I do not want to run the marathon there as I see my immediate future on the track.

“Saturday’s 10,000m final only served to confirm that. I only expected to run 30:30 so my confidence has been greatly boosted. Sadly it was not enough to win a medal on the day but hopefully I will make up for that in Athens.”
