Kenya's Ruto, Romania's Costea win Paris marathon
PARIS, April 4 (AFP) - Julius Ruto of Kenya won the 23rd Paris marathon on
Sunday, coming home in 2hrs 08min 10sec, 15 seconds ahead of compatriot Paul Kipsambu.
Mwense Kalombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo was third, 21 seconds off the pace.
Romania's Cristina Costea won the women's race in 2hrs 26min 11sec, shaving almost a
minute off the women's course record.
Russia's Irina Timoseyeva came in second 1min 34sec behind Costea with Japan's Mineko
Yamanouchi 2min 41sec off the pace.
The winners receive a cheque for 150,000 francs (some 25,000 dollars).
However, Ruto and Costea failed to bag an extra 300,000 francs which were on offer for a
man coming in under 2hr 07min or any woman timing less than 2hr 22min.
