Monte-Carlo - In one week’s time the 102nd edition of the Millrose Games (Fri 30 Jan) will take place in New York, USA, and so will commence four intense weeks of indoor athletics action across the 2009 IAAF Indoor Permit Meeting season.
In the last fortnight some of the world’s elite jumpers and vaulters in particular have already registered high class results as the indoor season has sprung into life across the northern hemisphere but the ten meetings of the IAAF season represent the core of the world’s indoor competition.
However in 2009, unlike the current international cross country season which will culminate with the 37th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan, on Saturday 28 March 2009, indoor athletics does not have the focal point of an IAAF World Athletics Series event. After a most successful celebration of the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in March 2008, we must now wait until Doha in 2010 for the next global indoor championships.
Yet with the 2009 athletics year as a whole pointed towards the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin, Germany (15 – 23 August), it is true to say that all performances in whatever discipline even those set in the indoor stadiums of the world this winter will be focussed on and assessed in relation to those forthcoming championships.

C’EST PARTI POUR LA SALLE ! MEETINGS A PERMIS DE L’IAAF
Monaco - La 102ème édition des Millrose Games aura lieu dans une semaine (vendredi 30 janvier) à New-York, (USA). Commenceront alors quatre semaines d’intense activité d’athlétisme en salle qui marquent le début de la saison d’hiver des Meetings à Permis de l’IAAF.
Au cours de la dernière quinzaine, quelques-uns des meilleurs sauteurs en hauteur et perchistes au monde se sont déjà distingués avec d’excellents résultats car la saison en salle a déjà pris ses quartiers d’hiver dans l’hémisphère nord, mais les dix meetings de l’IAAF représentent le cœur des compétitions mondiales en salle.
Pourtant en 2009, l’athlétisme en salle n’aura pas l’opportunité d’une compétition de la Série Mondiale de l’Athlétisme. En effet, après une remarquable célébration des Championnats du Monde en Salle, à Valence (Espagne) en mars 2008, il nous faudra à présent patienter jusqu’à Doha en 2010, pour savourer les prochains Mondiaux en salle. A la différence, la saison de cross connaitra elle, son point d’orgue à Amman, en Jordanie lors des 37èmes Championnats du Monde de Cross de l’IAAF, le samedi 28 mars 2009.
Toutefois, dans le contexte d’une année d’athlétisme concentrant tous ses efforts vers les 12èmes Championnats du Monde à Berlin, Allemagne (15 - 23 aout), on peut affirmer sans se tromper que toutes les performances, dans quelque discipline que ce soit, mêmes celles réalisées dans les stades couverts du monde entier, tendront vers un même but, et seront évaluées à l’aune des championnats du monde à venir.
