Brazil Grand Prix to feature Olympic
4x100m final rematch

10 April 2001 - For the first time in the history of the Grand Prix Caixa Athletics Meeting gold, silver and bronze medal-winning teams of the Olympic 4x100m relay will be compete in Rio.
Teams from the United States of America, Brazil and Cuba, the three countries that won a medal in the mens 4x100m relay in Sydney Olympics will take part in the IAAF Grand Prix Meeting in Rio de Janeiro on 6 May. It will be the first time that the 4x100m relay is scheduled in the meeting which comes to its 17th edition, the sixth consecutive held in the Celio de Barros stadium in Rio.
The competition will include 16 events, 12 of which will count for the IAAF Grand Prix standings. The meeting will start at 9.00 p.m. and will be broadcast live by Globo television.
Brazil will be represented by the same athletes who won silver in Sydney: Vicente Lenilson de Lima, Edson Luciano Ribeiro, André Domingos de Silva and Claudinei Quirino da Silva. The race will also feature a B team for Brazil, Argentina, Jamaica and two teams representing the United States and Cuba.
The American team will include Brian Lewis, and Cuba will be represented by two of the runners who won bronze in Sydney: Fred Mayola and Ivan Garcia.
Leading Brazilian athletes who will compete in individual events in Rio include world silver medallists Claudinei Quirino da Silva (200m), Sanderlei Parrela (400m) and the three-time Pan American champion Eronildes de Araujo (400m hurdles).
