Competing in ACT Athletics Interclub competition on Saturday night (29) Weston Creek's Emily Brichacek with a time of 9:08:93 smashed the Australian U16 record, and the ACT under 16, under 18 and under 20 resident and all-comers records.

Brichacek's run was all the more impressive considering she ran the 800m earlier in the evening and had to run the 3000m race basically by herself as no other female runners could keep up.

Some other statistics achieved by the young Canberran are:  stands 5th on the Australian Open women's lists; 6th in the World Youth (U18) lists; 33rd on the Australian all time list.

Coached by Ted McLean, Brichacek now needs to carefully plan the year ahead as she will have so many opportunities to perform at the highest level including the junior race at the World Junior Cross Country Championships, and on the track at the World Junior Championships and the Telstra A Series meets.

Last Saturday's run comes on the back of a 4:19.89 for 1500m the previous week, another outstanding performance where she also set new ACT under 16, under 18 and under 20 records.
