Sergey Morozov set a World record * in the 20Km Race Walk, clocking 1:16:43 at the Russian National Championships in Saransk today.
The 20-year-old, the 2005 World youth and 2007 European junior champion in the 10,000m race, became the first man to dip under the event’s 1:17 barrier. His mark bettered the 1:17:16 set in Saransk last September by Vladimir Kanaykin. Kanaykin was second, also under 1:17 in 1:16:53.
For Morozov, a past World Cup and European Cup 10Km champion, this race was his first-ever completed 20Km outing.
Aleksandr Yargunkin was third, clocking 1:20:01.
