Two former winners, Dina Asher-Smith and Ewa Swoboda, return to the Init Indoor Meeting in Karlsruhe on the hunt for more success on 27 January.

Asher-Smith ran 7.08 to win the 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in 2021, while Swoboda was triumphant in a time of 7.10 in 2019, and in 2023 they will line up alongside the already-announced Malaika Mihambo as well as Alexandra Burghardt.

Britain’s Asher-Smith set her 60m PB of 7.08 in Prague in 2015, a mark that she equalled in Glasgow in 2018 and then Karlsruhe in 2021. The 2019 world 200m champion claimed bronze in that event at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 and she also has multiple Olympic and world relay medals to her name.

Swoboda, meanwhile, improved her 60m PB to a national record of 6.99 at this year’s Polish Indoor Championships and dipped under 7.10 a total of eight times throughout the season. She won the 2019 European indoor title and finished fourth at this year’s World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Germany’s Mihambo, the Olympic, world and European long jump champion, joins them in the 60m field, as does her compatriot Burghardt, part of Germany's world bronze medal-winning 4x100m team in Oregon.

Two athletes have also been announced for the men’s pole vault - Germany’s Bo Kanda Lita Baehre and Oleg Zernikel both cleared 5.71m at this year’s Init Indoor Meeting and return to Karlsruhe next month.

The Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe is the first of seven World Indoor Tour Gold meetings in 2023. In early February the tour heads to Boston, then Torun, New York, Lievin and Madrid before the series final in Birmingham.
