Global gold medallists Kelsey-Lee Barber, Wang Jianan, Woo Sanghyeok and Briana Williams are among the latest athletes announced for the Seiko Golden Grand Prix, this year’s fourth World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, taking place in Yokohama, Japan, on 21 May.
After claiming Olympic bronze in Tokyo, Australia’s javelin star Barber returns to Japan as a two-time world champion, having added gold in Oregon last year to the crown she claimed in Doha in 2019.
In Yokohama she will again compete against Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi, who gained bronze in the world final won by Barber in Oregon and won at last year's Seiko Golden Grand Prix.
The men’s long jump will feature China’s Wang, who won the world title last year thanks to leap of 8.36m in the final round, while Korea’s world indoor high jump champion Woo will compete against the bronze medallist in Belgrade, Hamish Kerr of New Zealand.
Williams, who formed part of Jamaica’s Olympic gold medal-winning 4x100m team in Tokyo, heads the women’s 100m entries, while USA’s Tonea Marshall is announced for the 100m hurdles.
Australia’s Oceanian record-holder Brooke Buschkuehl, who jumped 7.13m last year, is among the early entries for the women’s long jump.
Athletes already announced for the meeting include world gold medallists Fred Kerley and Michael Norman, who will renew their rivalry when they go head-to-head in the 100m.
