Melissa Jefferson-Wooden blazed to a dominant win in the 100m and Chase Jackson broke the meeting record in the shot put as they issued further warnings to their rivals at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, this season&rsquo;s penultimate Wanda Diamond League meeting, in Brussels on Friday (22).
Competition was fierce in many events, with just three weeks to go to the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 and with the Brussels meeting being the last opportunity for athletes to bank points in the Diamond League ahead of the series finale in Zurich next week.
But Jefferson-Wooden and Jackson were both dominant winners and they will start in Zurich and Tokyo as the athletes to beat.
Jefferson-Wooden, who claimed Olympic bronze in Paris last year, remains undefeated in the 100m this year. While her winning time of 10.76 (-0.2m/s) in Brussels was the fifth-fastest of her career &ndash; all achieved this season &ndash; it was her winning margin that turned heads as she finished 0.32 clear of world champion Sha'Carri Richardson, runner-up in 11.08, while Daryll Neita was third in 11.15 and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce fourth in 11.17.
&ldquo;I know that I&rsquo;m in great shape and that it&rsquo;s all about putting together the perfect race at the perfect time, when it matters the most, and that is at the World Championships in Tokyo,&rdquo; said Jefferson-Wooden, who set her PB and world lead of 10.65 at the US Championships to move to joint fifth on the world all-time list.
&ldquo;The plan is definitely to go out there and take gold. I feel like I put myself in a really good spot to be a contender for that and now it&rsquo;s time to have trust.&rdquo;
Her US compatriot Jackson will have the same ambition, as she looks to claim a third consecutive world title in the shot put.
She made another big statement in Brussels, throwing a meeting record of 20.90m in the third round &ndash; the third-farthest throw of her career that saw her win by more than a metre. Only Jackson &ndash; who set a US record of 20.95m in June &ndash; has thrown farther this year. The previous meeting record had stood since 2014, when Valerie Adams threw 20.59m.
In a stacked clash, two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton threw 19.89m for the runner-up spot and Jessica Schilder was third with 19.58m.
There was another strong line-up in the men&rsquo;s discus and it was Jamaica&rsquo;s NCAA champion Ralford Mullings who took top spot. Missing the meeting record by just 30cm, he threw 69.66m in the final round after 69.41m in the fourth to win ahead of world record-holder Mykolas Alekna (68.82m) and 2022 world champion Kristjan Ceh (67.13m).
World leader Julian Weber also impressed in the javelin, throwing 89.65m to win by more than three metres, while world champion Katie Moon cleared a season&rsquo;s best of 4.85m to win the pole vault ahead of 2024 world indoor champion Molly Caudery (4.80m).
Like Jefferson-Wooden in the 100m, world indoor bronze medallist Jacory Patterson scotched to a clear win in the 400m. Blasting away off the final bend, he was untroubled as he reached the finish line in 44.05 as Vernon Norwood was second in 44.62.
The men&rsquo;s 200m was won by Dominican Republic&rsquo;s Olympic fifth-place finisher Alexander Ogando in 20.16 (-0.3m/s) as he pipped Robert Gregory by 0.03.
<h2>Laros and Hiltz kick to victory</h2>
Niels Laros and Nikki Hiltz timed their kicks to perfection to win the 1500m races.
Dutch 20-year-old Laros kicked past 18-year-old Phanuel Koech to win with a powerful final surge that saw him cross the finish line in 3:30.58 to Koech&rsquo;s 3:31.41. Yared Nuguse was third in 3:31.51.
US champion Hiltz chased down longtime leader Linden Hall and passed her down the home straight to triumph in a season&rsquo;s best of 3:55.94. Hall held on for a PB of 3:56.33, while Nelly Chepchirchir was third in 3:57.35 as the top seven dipped under four minutes. That group did not include two-time world indoor champion Freweyni Hailu as she suffered a fall mid race and did not finish.
Luxembourg&rsquo;s Ruben Querinjean had the race of his life in the 3000m steeplechase. Running a national record of 8:09.47 to improve his previous best by almost five seconds, he became the first man from his nation to win at a Diamond League. Getnet Wale was second in 8:09.62.
Bahrain&rsquo;s Olympic and world 3000m steeplechase champion Winfred Yavi also wanted to make history at the Brussels meeting, as she contested the mile steeplechase. The discipline had never been contested at such a level before, and she solo ran her way to a 4:40.13 victory, winning by more than six seconds.
Kenya&rsquo;s Agnes Ngetich attacked the world record during the first couple of kilometres of the women&rsquo;s 5000m and while she drifted off the pace, she held on for a clear win in 14:24.99.
The women-only world 10km record-holder moved to third on the world 5000m all-time list with her runner-up 14:01.29 finish behind her compatriot Beatrice Chebet&rsquo;s 13:58.06 world record run in Eugene last month. She was initially on track to beat that mark, following the lead pacemaker who reached 1000m in 2:46.91 and then moving past the second pacemaker to hit 2000m in 5:35.74.
But she couldn&rsquo;t maintain that pace and eventually won by six seconds ahead of Likina Amebaw (14:31.51). Aleshign Baweke was third in 14:31.88, while Josetter Andrews was fourth and Marta Garcia fifth in a Spanish record.
USA&rsquo;s Olympic silver medallist Anna Cockrell clinched victory in the 400m hurdles, holding off Gianna Woodruff &ndash; 53.66 to 53.89. Naomi Van den Broeck delighted the home crowd, improving the Belgian to 54.12 to finish third.
World indoor champion and world leader Leyanis Perez Hernandez topped the triple jump, leaping 14.78m to win by just six centimetres ahead of her Cuban compatriot Davisleydi Velazco, who jumped a PB for the runner-up spot.
Ukraine&rsquo;s Oleh Doroshchuk won the high jump on countback ahead of home favourite Thomas Carmoy as they both cleared 2.25m before their attempts at 2.28m and 2.30m.
The mixed 4x100m, run in the formation of man-woman-man-woman, was won by a Dutch quartet in 40.96.
Belgium&rsquo;s Eliott Crestan won the non-Diamond League 800m in 1:43.91, while South Africa&rsquo;s Gift Leotlela won the pre-programme 100m in 10.13 (-0.6m/s) ahead of his compatriot Bayanda Walaza (10.18). Dutch Paralympic champion Fleur Jong won the invitational long jump with 6.77m, as Belgium&rsquo;s Olympic heptathlon champion Nafi Thiam leapt a best of 6.40m.

Jefferson-Wooden and Jackson blaze a trail in Brussels

Heavy rain may have hampered many of the events at Athletissima on Wednesday (20), but it also made for some thrilling and surprising finishes at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne.
Four days ago in Silesia, in what was her first race since winning Olympic gold last year, Keely Hodgkinson won by two seconds in a world-leading 1:54.74, showing that she&rsquo;s still capable of dominating the women&rsquo;s 800m.
But could she do it on a cold, rainy night in Lausanne?
The 23-year-old let her feet respond to that question; the answer was an emphatic &lsquo;yes&rsquo; in the form of a 1:55.69 victory, once again winning by two seconds.
She tracked the pacemaker through the first lap, which was covered in 56.04. She then led the pack down the back straight and went through 600m in 1:25.58 before kicking away to a convincing win in 1:55.69, smashing a meeting record that had stood since 2002.
Switzerland&rsquo;s Audrey Werro came through to take second place in 1:57.34, overtaking Georgia Hunter Bell (1:57.55).
While the women&rsquo;s 800m went to the form book, there was a surprise outcome in the men&rsquo;s 800m &ndash; and, indeed, many other events &ndash; due in no small part to the heavy rain that fell throughout the evening.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi, returning to the track where he set his lifetime best last year, was this time relegated to runner-up as world indoor champion Josh Hoey burst from the pack down the home straight to charged ahead and win in 1:42.82.
Wanyonyi finished second in 1:43.29 ahead of Mohamed Attaoui (1:43.38) and Max Burgin (1:43.44).
Hoey finished fourth at the US Trials, missing out on making the team for the World Championships. But if he wins at next week&rsquo;s Diamond League Final, he&rsquo;d earn a wildcard entry for Tokyo.
Jamaica's Oblique Seville seemed unaffected by the rain during the men's 100m. He blasted out of the blocks and could not be caught, charging through the line in 9.87 (-0.3m/s) in a race where no other man finished inside 10 seconds.
World and Olympic champion Noah Lyles came through for second place in 10.02, just ahead of Ackeem Blake (10.02) and Akani Simbine (10.05).
In the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles, which was held earlier in the evening when the rainfall wasn&rsquo;t so heavy, world leader Cordell Tinch produced a near flawless run to win comfortably in 12.98 (0.3m/s). He led a US 1-2-3 from Jamal Britt (13.13) and Trey Cunningham (13.19).
The women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles was generally more affected by the rain, though it didn&rsquo;t seem to hamper Nadine Visser, who came through to win in 12.45, beating Olympic champion Masai Russell (12.53) and European indoor champion Ditaji Kambundji (12.54).
<h2>Karalis over six metres again</h2>
The field events were hit hardest by the rain, not least the women&rsquo;s pole vault, which had to be cancelled after just the second height.
Fortunately for the athletes in the men&rsquo;s pole vault, their event was held in Lausanne&rsquo;s city centre on Tuesday evening, the night before the main competition. Competing in much kinder conditions, Olympic bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis notched up his 10th six-metre clearance of the season to win with 6.02m.
French duo Renaud Lavillenie and Thibaut Collet tied for second place with 5.82m, the latter securing his place at the World Championships in the process.
Two-time world champion Joe Kovacs stole victory from Leonardo Fabbri in the men&rsquo;s shot put, producing a fifth-round effort of 22.04m to overtake the Italian&rsquo;s earlier effort of 21.77m. Adrian Piperi was third with 21.49m.
Brittany Brown, another athlete to miss out on making the US team for Tokyo, gained redemption here by winning the women&rsquo;s 200m. She crossed the line in 22.23 to hold off Nigeria&rsquo;s Favour Ofili (22.31) and Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith (22.37).
The winning margin was the same in the women&rsquo;s 400m as Norway&rsquo;s Henriette Jaeger came through in the closing stages to overtake Lieke Klaver, winning in 50.09 to the Dutch runner&rsquo;s 50.17.
The two longest races on the programme &ndash; the women&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase and the men&rsquo;s 5000m &ndash; soon became tactical affairs as no one was willing to chase fast times in such conditions.
NCAA champion Doris Lemngole, making her Diamond League debut, produced an impressive victory in the steeplechase, winning by four seconds in 9:16.36 ahead of Ethiopia&rsquo;s Sembo Almayew (9:20.39).
The men&rsquo;s 5000m was even more unpredictable. Leading positions and pace changed frequently throughout. On the last lap, just when it looked as though Hagos Gebrhiwet would challenge for victory, the pack responded and Isaac Kimlei emerged as the leader, kicking to a clear victory in 13:07.67. Olympic bronze medallist Grant Fisher was second (13:08.51) and Mexico&rsquo;s Eduardo Herrera third (13:09.50).
Elsewhere, in events heavily affected by the rain, Adriana Vilagos won the women&rsquo;s javelin by four metres with 63.02m. Jo-Ane du Plessis was second with 58.89m while world and Olympic champion Haruka Kitaguchi struggled in the conditions, placing 10th with 50.93m.
There was a three-way tie in the women&rsquo;s high jump between Nicola Olyslagers, Maria Zodzik and Christina Honsel, all of whom cleared 1.91m on their first attempts. Olympic champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh retired from the competition after her first two jumps.
Anvar Anvarov was perhaps the biggest surprise winner of the night, taking the men&rsquo;s long jump with 7.84m and becoming the first Uzbek man to win at a Diamond League meeting.

Hodgkinson and Hoey highlight soaking and surprising night in Lausanne

Many of the world&rsquo;s best athletes will be out in force at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels on Friday (22) for what will be the last opportunity to bank points in the Wanda Diamond League ahead of the series finale next week.
While some have already secured their place in Zurich, several athletes are relying on a good showing in Brussels to guarantee a spot in the final, where athletes will compete for bonuses ranging between US$30,000 and US$50,000, as well as a wild card entry to the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.
Olympic 100m bronze medallist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden is looking to maintain her current momentum through Brussels, Zurich and all the way to Tokyo. The US sprinter is undefeated at 100m this year and has produced the four fastest times of her career in her last four finals. The &lsquo;slowest&rsquo; of those was a 10.75 clocking, but that was into a -1.5m/s headwind. Her fastest time was her world-leading 10.65 from the US Championships, which she came close to in Silesia last week with 10.66.
Her form suggests that she could challenge the meeting record of 10.72, shared by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson. Fraser-Pryce is also in the field, as is world champion Sha&rsquo;Carri Richardson. It will be the first time that Jefferson-Wooden, Fraser-Pryce and Richardson have been in the same 100m race.
Two other athletes are heading to Brussels with records on their minds.
Seven weeks after running the third-fastest 5000m time in history, Agnes Jebet Ngetich is aiming to go a few seconds faster than her 14:01.29 PB and challenge the world record set last month by double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet. Others in the field &ndash; including USA&rsquo;s Josette Andrews and Ethiopia&rsquo;s Hirut Meshesha and Likina Amebaw &ndash; will be aiming to secure more Diamond League points ahead of the final.
Towards the end of the evening, world and Olympic champion Winfred Yavi will contest the mile steeplechase. The discipline has never been contested at this level before, and it&rsquo;s not an official world record event, but the Bahraini athlete is in form to lay down a strong marker, given her recent results in the 3000m steeplechase.
<h2>Olympic champions star on the field</h2>
Gold medallists from the Paris 2024 Olympics will be present in five field events in Brussels.
In fact, the women&rsquo;s shot put brings together three global champions in the form of Olympic gold medallist Yemisi Ogunleye, two-time world champion Chase Jackson and two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton. European champion Jessica Schilder will also be a big threat.
The men&rsquo;s discus is similarly loaded. World record-holder Mykolas Alekna, world champion Daniel Stahl, Olympic champion Roje Stona, 2022 world champion Kristjan Ceh, Olympic bronze medallist Matt Denny and NCAA champion Ralford Mullings are all set to clash in what looks set to be a dress rehearsal of the World Championships.
In the women&rsquo;s triple jump, Olympic champion Thea LaFond takes on the top five women from this year&rsquo;s outdoor list: world indoor champion Leyanis Perez Hernandez, world indoor silver medallist Liadagmis Povea, Olympic silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts and Olympic bronze medallist Jasmine Moore.
Elsewhere on the field, Olympic champion Hamish Kerr takes on Olympic silver medallist Shelby McEwen and European indoor champion Oleh Doroshchuk in the men&rsquo;s high jump, while two-time Olympic heptathlon champion Nafi Thiam is part of a non-scoring long jump contest.
The women&rsquo;s pole vault and men&rsquo;s javelin both feature multiple winners of global titles.
World champion Katie Moon, US champion Sandi Morris, 2024 world indoor champion Molly Caudery, world indoor champion Marie-Julie Bonnin and US twins Amanda Moll and Hana Moll feature in the women&rsquo;s pole vault.
The men&rsquo;s javelin, meanwhile, includes the likes of world leader Julian Weber, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott and 2015 world champion Julius Yego.
<h2>Global medallists clash on the track</h2>
The men&rsquo;s 400m has been a highly competitive discipline on the international circuit this year, so another close battle is expected when Olympic bronze medallist Muzala Samukonga takes on Diamond League champion Charlie Dobson, US champion Jacory Patterson, Xiamen Diamond League winner Bayapo Ndori and 2024 world indoor champion Alexander Doom.
In other sprinting events, Olympic silver medallist Anna Cockrell takes on Jamaica&rsquo;s Andrenette Knight and Panama&rsquo;s Gianna Woodruff in the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles. The men&rsquo;s 200m, meanwhile, features 19.80 performer Robert Gregory and Olympic finalists Alexander Ogando and Makanakaishe Charamba.
Kenya&rsquo;s Nelly Chepchirchir, who has won all of her races so far this year, will contest the 1500m in which she&rsquo;ll face world silver medallist Diribe Welteji, 2024 world indoor champion Freweyni Hailu and US champion Nikki Hiltz.
Kenyan teenager Phanuel Koech, who has broken 3:30 in his past three races, will line up for the men&rsquo;s 1500m, which also includes Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse, 2022 world champion Jake Wightman, Bowerman Mile winner Niels Laros, Portugal&rsquo;s Isaac Nader and Kenya&rsquo;s Abel Kipsang.
And in the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, leading Kenyan duo Abraham Kibiwot and Simon Koech will take on Ethiopia&rsquo;s Getnet Wale.

Fierce battles expected in Brussels as Diamond League Final draws near

Middle-distance maestros Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Keely Hodgkinson headline the 800m fields at Athletissima and are among seven Olympic champions set to compete at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on Wednesday (20).
The two world 800m leaders head to Lausanne off the back of very different seasons. Wanyonyi has raced every month this year since February and has won his past four Diamond League races, racking up victories in Oslo, Stockholm, Monaco and London.
The 21-year-old Kenyan ran a world-leading 1:41.44 in Monaco last month and returns to Lausanne with fond memories, as it&rsquo;s where he set his lifetime best of 1:41.11 last year &ndash; a performance that consolidated his third-place position on the world all-time list.
The three men who followed Wanyonyi across the line in Lausanne last year are all returning, meaning the Olympic champion will take on world champion Marco Arop, European champion Gabriel Tual and 2024 world indoor champion Bryce Hoppel.
They&rsquo;re joined by world indoor champion Josh Hoey and Olympic finalists Max Burgin, Mohamed Attaoui and Tshepiso Masalela.
In contrast to Wanyonyi, Hodgkinson heads to Lausanne off the back of just one race this year. But the Briton, who delayed the start to her season due to injury, made that one race count; she won in Silesia recently in a world-leading 1:54.74, just 0.13 shy of her lifetime best.
She won that race by two seconds, but Wednesday&rsquo;s outing will be another test ahead of next month&rsquo;s World Championships as she takes on world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso, European U23 champion Audrey Werro, Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell and Botswana&rsquo;s Oratile Nowe.
Like Hodgkinson, USA&rsquo;s Masai Russell heads to Lausanne off the back of a victory in Silesia. The Olympic champion won the 100m hurdles there in 12.19, equalling the third-fastest time in history, and she&rsquo;ll once again take on the existing and former world record-holders: Tobi Amusan and Kendra Harrison. Jamaica&rsquo;s Ackera Nugent and the in-form Nadine Visser add further quality to the field.
World and Olympic champion Noah Lyles headlines the men's 100m. Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson, who recently beat Lyles in Silesia, is a late withdrawal, but the field still includes the likes of Jamaica&rsquo;s Oblique Seville, world bronze medallist Zharnel Hughes and world indoor bronze medallist Akani Simbine.
Three world and Olympic champions will be in action in the field events.
World high jump record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh takes on Australian rivals Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson in the women&rsquo;s high jump. Two-time Olympic heptathlon champion Nafi Thiam is also part of the line-up.
Multiple global champion Miltiadis Tentoglou headlines a men&rsquo;s long jump field that includes Jamaican trio Wayne Pinnock, Tajay Gayle, Carey McLeod, as well as world indoor champion Mattia Furlani, Australia&rsquo;s Liam Adcock and Swiss decathlete Simon Ehammer.
The top six women in the world rankings will compete in the javelin, led by world and Olympic champion Haruka Kitaguchi. The Japanese star takes on Serbia&rsquo;s Adriana Vilagos.
The men&rsquo;s shot put is also of an exceedingly high quality as it features the top nine athletes on this year&rsquo;s world list. World leader Leonardo Fabbri takes on, among others, two-time world champion Joe Kovacs and US champion Josh Awotunde.
Fresh from a season&rsquo;s best of 22.17 to win in Silesia, two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson hopes to build on that momentum in Lausanne. Brittany Brown and Favour Ofili, who finished close behind Jackson in Silesia, will also be in action, as will 2019 world champion Dina Asher-Smith and Marie Josee Ta Lou Smith.
US sprint hurdler Cordell Tinch is another recent Silesia winner hoping to pick up another victory in Lausanne. The world leader faces French champion Just Kwao-Mathey, USA&rsquo;s Trey Cunningham and Dylan Beard.
The past four Diamond League races in the men&rsquo;s 5000m have all been won with times faster than 12:50, so a similarly swift time could be in store in Lausanne, especially with the likes of Hagos Gebrhiwet, Birhanu Balew, Grant Fisher and Jacob Krop in the field.
Elsewhere on the track, 2022 world champion Norah Jeruto faces Ethiopia&rsquo;s Sembo Almayew and NCAA champion Doris Lemngole in the women&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase. 2019 world champion Salwa Eid Naser contests the women&rsquo;s 400m alongside Natalia Bukowiecka, Isabella Whittaker and Henriette Jaeger.
The men&rsquo;s pole vault, which will be held in the city centre on Tuesday (19), features Olympic bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis, two-time world champion Sam Kendricks and world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall.

Wanyonyi and Hodgkinson look to continue momentum in Lausanne

Faith Kipyegon came within one second of the long-standing world 3000m record, clocking 8:07.04 for the second-fastest time in history at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, a Wanda Diamond League meeting, in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday (16).
That was one of three individual Diamond League records set on a hot and sunny afternoon in the Silesian Stadium, where Karsten Warholm and Masai Russell also produced two of the fastest performances of all time.
Kenya's Kipyegon is already the world record-holder for the 1500m and the mile and she came incredibly close to adding the 3000m mark to her CV in only her third ever race over the distance.
The three-time Olympic and four-time world gold medallist was paced by Sage Hurta-Klecker and Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull, and she tracked them closely as they hit 1000m in 2:42.07. Hull then reached 2000m in 5:25.18, a few strides ahead of Kipyegon.
After running solo for the final two laps, Kipyegon stormed across the finish line in 8:07.04 for an African record and Diamond League record, just missing the world record of 8:06.11 set by Wang Junxia in 1993.
She won the race by almost half a minute, Likina Amebaw securing second place in 8:34.53.
The performance marked a phenomenal return to Poland for Kipyegon, who was racing in the country for the first time since 2013, when she won her second world U20 cross country title in Bydgoszcz. She also made her global championship debut in Poland when she raced at the 2010 World Cross Country Championships.
"I am so happy," she said. "I saw the world record line during the race but today it was very hot. I want to come back here next year. All those records, this is what I love doing. I want to be an inspiration for young people and I love to challenge myself."
Looking ahead to next month's World Championships, she added: "It is all about Tokyo now."
Norway&rsquo;s Warholm issued a warning to his rivals in the 400m hurdles, blazing to the third-fastest time in history &ndash; a Diamond League record and world lead of 46.28.

Only Warholm, with his world record of 45.94 from the Tokyo Olympics, and Paris Olympic champion Rai Benjamin, who ran 46.17 in that Tokyo Olympic final, have ever gone faster. Ezekiel Nathaniel ran a Nigerian record of 47.31 for second place.
Femke Bol took four tenths of a second off her own world lead to win the women&rsquo;s event, running a dominant 51.91 to improve her own meeting record.
The world champion maintained a remarkable five-year Diamond League 400m hurdles win streak, clinching this latest victory by more than a second and a half ahead of Slovak Republic&rsquo;s Emma Zapletalova, who ran a national record of 53.58.
USA&rsquo;s Olympic champion Russell lined up in Silesia on the hunt for her first Diamond League win and she secured it in sensational style, breaking the Diamond League record with 12.19 (1.4m/s) &ndash; the joint-third fastest time in history &ndash; in a race of record depth.
Only world record-holder Tobi Amusan (12.12) and Russell herself (12.17) have ever run quicker.
Demonstrating the incredible current depth in the event, the meeting record had been broken earlier in the afternoon, as Nadine Visser improved her own Dutch record to 12.28 (1.1m/s) in the heats. It was Tonea Marshall who got closest to Russell in the final, running a PB of 12.24 for the runner-up spot, as Amusan finished third in 12.25, world champion Danielle Williams finished fourth in&nbsp;12.31 and Alia Armstrong finished fifth in 12.32 &ndash; the fastest times ever recorded for third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
<h2>Hodgkinson and Thompson make their mark</h2>
Great Britain&rsquo;s Keely Hodgkinson made a big statement in her first race since becoming the Olympic 800m champion in Paris, running a world-leading meeting record of 1:54.74.
In her comeback after injury, the two-time world silver medallist stormed to the ninth-fastest time in history and the second-fastest time of her career so far, behind her own British record of 1:54.61. Kenya&rsquo;s Lilian Odira was second in a PB of 1:56.52 and the top nine all dipped under two minutes, including Australia&rsquo;s Claudia Hollingsworth with an Oceanian record of 1:57.67.

Another meeting record fell in the women&rsquo;s 1500m, Ethiopia&rsquo;s world 10,000m champion Gudaf Tsegay dominating the race to win in 3:50.62 &ndash; the eighth-fastest performance of all time. She started out on world record pace, following closely as the pacemaker reached 800m in 1:59.97, and although her pace dropped over the final lap, she remained well clear to win by more than four seconds.
Kenya&rsquo;s Olympic 5000m and 10,000m champion Beatrice Chebet, making her international 1500m debut, finished second in 3:54.73 and Olympic bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell was third in 3:56.00 as the top seven went sub-3:57.
The women&rsquo;s 100m closed the programme and USA&rsquo;s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ensured it ended in style. Equalling the meeting record with 10.66 (0.1m/s), she was just 0.01 off her PB and world lead as she continued her win streak this season. Tia Clayton was second in a PB of 10.82.
The men&rsquo;s Olympic 100m rematch ended in victory for Jamaica&rsquo;s silver medallist Kishane Thompson as he turned the tables on USA&rsquo;s Olympic champion Noah Lyles in their first 100m clash since that Olympic final in Paris.
After getting a strong start, Thompson held off Lyles&rsquo; strong finish and dipped over the line in a meeting record-equalling 9.87 (0.3m/s). Lyles was just 0.03 behind him.
Jamaica&rsquo;s two-time world champion Shericka Jackson won the 200m, pipping Brittany Brown &ndash; 22.17 to 22.21 (-0.3m/s).
USA&rsquo;s Cordell Tinch and Grant Holloway were locked in battle in the 110m hurdles, but it was world leader Tinch who edged ahead in the closing stages to beat the three-time world champion, equalling the meeting record with 13.03 (-0.5m/s) to Holloway&rsquo;s 13.15.
Dominican Republic&rsquo;s Olympic and world champion Marileidy Paulino won the 400m with a superb home straight surge that saw her overpower Salwa Eid Naser and dip for victory in 49.18. Naser held on for the runner-up spot in 49.27.
The men&rsquo;s 1500m was won by Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse in 3:33.19, as he works towards the Diamond League Final on the hunt for a wild card entry for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25. Timothy Cheruiyot moved through the field for second place in 3:33.35.
<h2>Duplantis and Mahuchikh soar to victory</h2>
Back at the scene of his 6.26m then world record from last year, Mondo Duplantis soared 6.10m to win the pole vault this time. Just four days after raising the record to 6.29m in Budapest, he again faced strong competition from Emmanouil Karalis, who cleared 6.00m to finish second, two weeks on from clearing a national record of 6.08m at the Greek Championships.
Duplantis needed two attempts at his opening height of 5.60m and also had two tries at 6.10m, while Karalis cleared all his heights first time before three unsuccessful attempts at 6.10m. Duplantis went on to try 6.20m, with a close third attempt.

Fresh from his world-leading 83.18m to win in Budapest on Tuesday, Hungary&rsquo;s world and Olympic hammer medallist Bence Halasz continued his fine form to win in Silesia with 81.77m. Four of his five valid throws were beyond 80 metres. Olympic and world champion Ethan Katzberg threw 79.30 for the runner-up spot.
The women's Olympic and world champion Camryn Rogers surpassed 75 metres with two of her throws and clinched victory with a best of 75.39m. She backed it up with throws of 75.25m and 73.64m and won ahead of Krista Tervo with 72.74m.
USA&rsquo;s Payton Otterdahl beat Italy&rsquo;s world leader Leonardo Fabbri in the shot put, throwing 22.28m in the fifth round to improve on Fabbri&rsquo;s 22.10m from the fourth round.
New Zealand&rsquo;s Olympic champion Hamish Kerr soared a season&rsquo;s best of 2.33m to win the high jump, while USA&rsquo;s double Olympic bronze medallist Jasmine Moore set a meeting record of 6.85m to win a close long jump contest by two centimetres ahead of Hilary Kpatcha and world indoor champion Claire Bryant.
Kenya&rsquo;s 2015 world gold medallist Julius Yego won the javelin with a throw of 83.60m.
The action kicked off with meeting records in the women&rsquo;s high jump and pole vault, held as street events the day before the main programme. Ukraine&rsquo;s world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 2.00m to win the high jump ahead of Australia&rsquo;s Nicola Olyslagers (1.97m), while world indoor champion Marie-Julie Bonnin cleared 4.70m to win the pole vault before attempting a French record height of 4.77m.
Dutch thrower Jessica Schilder topped the shot put, throwing 19.66m. It was close for second place, Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye pipping Maggie Ewen by one centimetre &ndash; 19.50m to 19.49m.

Kipyegon, Warholm and Russell shine as records fall in Silesia

Records will be under threat and rivalries will be renewed across a star-studded schedule when the Wanda Diamond League season resumes with the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday (16).
Mondo Duplantis and Faith Kipyegon are among the 13 world record-holders who will want to make a statement when they stop in Silesia on the road to Tokyo, where they will defend their titles at the World Championships in September.
Swedish pole vault superstar Duplantis returns to the scene of his 10th world record, just four days after setting his 13th. The 25-year-old cleared 6.26m in Silesia last year, three weeks after claiming his second Olympic title and setting another of his world records in Paris. He improved the world record to 6.29m in Budapest on Tuesday, managing that mark on his second attempt.
The whole Paris Olympic podium is reunited as Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis also compete, the latter fresh from a runner-up finish to Duplantis in Budapest &ndash; a performance that followed his national record of 6.08m at the Greek Championships.
Adding further strength to the field are Ernest John Obiena and Kurtis Marschall, who joined winner Duplantis on the podium at the 2023 World Championships, plus former world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie.
Kenya&rsquo;s Kipyegon contests the 3000m, six weeks on from improving her own world 1500m record in Eugene. The three-time Olympic and four-time world gold medallist also holds the mile world record and is a former world record-holder in the 5000m. She has only raced the 3000m twice before and her PB of 8:23.55 was set in 2014, but anything is possible when Kipyegon steps on the track.
&ldquo;I'm just going there to lower my personal best. That world record is tough,&rdquo; she said recently, referencing the 8:06.11 set by Wang Junxia in 1993.
&ldquo;We are here to try. I say, &lsquo;dare to try&rsquo;. It's always good to dare to try than not to try, so I'm going to Silesia to just lower my personal best and see if I will dare to try and if the world record is possible.&rdquo;
She will be paced by another world record-holder &ndash; Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull, the Olympic silver medallist who ran 5:19.70 for 2000m in Monaco last year. Two other world record-breakers &ndash; double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet (5000m and 10,000m) and Gudaf Tsegay (1500m short track) &ndash; will meet in the 1500m, Chebet making her international 1500m debut. They will be joined by Olympic bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell, Birke Haylom and Nikki Hiltz.
Keely Hodgkinson is set to race for the first time since winning the Olympic 800m title in Paris as she continues her comeback after injury. The men&rsquo;s 1500m features six men who have dipped under 3:30 this season, including Timothy Cheruiyot, world indoor champion Josh Hoey and Cameron Myers. They take on Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler.
<h2>Sprint showdowns</h2>
The meeting concludes with the women&rsquo;s 100m, starring world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden who ran 10.65 to win one of her two US titles at the start of this month. The Olympic and world relay champion is unbeaten in the 100m this year and will want to maintain that momentum when she races the likes of world champion Sha'Carri Richardson, Tina and Tia Clayton, Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith and home star Ewa Swoboda.
Olympic gold and silver medallists Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson reignite their rivalry in the men&rsquo;s 100m, as part of a field that features eight sub-9.90 sprinters. Among them are Diamond League leader Akani Simbine, Kenny Bednarek, Trayvon Bromell and Christian Coleman.
The women&rsquo;s 200m includes Jamaica&rsquo;s two-time world champion Shericka Jackson against Rome and Paris Diamond League runner-up Amy Hunt, Brittany Brown and Favour Ofili. The women's 400m features all the medallists from both the Paris Olympics and Budapest World Championships in Marileidy Paulino, home favourite Natalia Bukowiecka, Sada Williams and Salwa Eid Naser.
Another stacked field will take on the 100m hurdles, in a programme that has heats before the final. USA&rsquo;s Olympic champion Masai Russell&nbsp;faces Jamaica&rsquo;s world champion Danielle Williams, world record-holders Tobi Amusan and Devynne Charlton, and home star Pia Skrzyszowska.
The fastest 110m hurdler in the world this year &ndash; Cordell Tinch &ndash; stars in a clash with three-time world champion Grant Holloway and Poland&rsquo;s Jakub Szymanski.
The world champions also feature in both the men&rsquo;s and women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles. Norway&rsquo;s world record-holder Karsten Warholm takes on Abderrahman Samba in the men&rsquo;s event and Dutch star Femke Bol headlines the women&rsquo;s event, looking to extend her six-race win streak in the event this year.
<h2>Global medallists collide</h2>
The action kicks off on Friday, when the women&rsquo;s high jump, pole vault and shot put will take place in Katowice Market Square.
The women&rsquo;s high jump features a clash between perennial global medallists Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson. Mahuchikh set a world record of 2.10m last year and has cleared a world-leading 2.02m this season &ndash; one centimetre higher than Olyslagers so far in 2025.
The pole vault features world leader Amanda Moll and world indoor champion Marie-Julie Bonnin, while the shot put stars Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye and Jessica Schilder, who has thrown 20.47m this year.

Two-time world champion Anderson Peters, 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott and 2015 world gold medallist Julius Yego will clash in the javelin.

World pole vault record-holder Duplantis will compete during the Weltklasse Zurich street event in front of Zurich&rsquo;s opera house on the first day of the final, targeting a fifth Diamond Trophy.
His fellow world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh is also due to compete in the street competition as she seeks a fourth successive series high jump win.
On the track, Dutch 400m hurdles star Bol will also be on the hunt for a fifth successive Diamond League title, while Olympic champion Wanyonyi could make it three Diamond League Final wins in a row in the 800m.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Allman has claimed the past four Diamond League discus titles and she&rsquo;ll go up against multiple global gold medallist Sandra Elkasevic and world champion Laulauga Tausaga as she targets trophy No.5.
Daniel Stahl and Kristjan Ceh &ndash; the past two men&rsquo;s discus world champions &ndash; will clash, while two-time world champion Katie Moon will be in pole vault action against world indoor bronze medallist Angelica Moser.
Olympic champion Thea LaFond, world gold medallist Hugues Fabrice Zango and his predecessor as world champion, Pedro Pichardo, have been announced for the triple jump.
The first day of the Diamond League Final takes place on the city's Sechsel&auml;utenplatz, while day two is held in the Letzigrund Stadium.

Further global medallists have been announced for the Athletissima Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on 20 August.
Multiple world and Olympic champion Noah Lyles will renew his rivalry with Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson, Oblique Seville and Courtney Lindsey as they join the previously announced Marcell Jacobs in the men&rsquo;s 100m.
The women&rsquo;s 200m will see the already announced Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred go up against 2019 world champion Dina Asher-Smith and two-time world 200m gold medallist Shericka Jackson.
In the 110m hurdles, world leader Cordell Tinch &ndash; who clocked 12.87 in May &ndash; will take on 2022 world silver medallist Trey Cunningham, Enrique Llopis, Jason Joseph and Just Kwaou-Mathey, who recently dipped under 13 seconds at the French Championships.
The women&rsquo;s high jump will bring together all three medallists from the Olympic Games: Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson. They will be joined by world U20 champion Angelina Topic.

Top sprint clashes and high jump rematch set for Lausanne

A Wanda Diamond League record from discus world record-holder Mykolas Alekna, an Ethiopian mile record from Gudaf Tsegay and a world-leading 200m run from Julien Alfred were among the many highlights at the London Athletics Meet on Saturday (19).
All three athletes not only broke meeting records, but also improved on the UK all-comers&rsquo; marks in their respective disciplines.
Alekna took an early lead with 66.97m, but 2022 world champion Kristjan Ceh bettered it in round two with 68.37m. Alekna responded with one of the best throws of his life &ndash; and the best throw ever produced at a Wanda Diamond League meeting &ndash; and sent his discus out to 71.70m.
Ceh, who had won nine consecutive competitions prior to this meeting, improved to 68.83m in the final round but had to settle for second place. British record-holder Lawrence Okoye was third with 67.24m.
World 10,000m champion Gudaf Tsegay achieved her first Diamond League win of the season, producing a dominant run to win the women&rsquo;s mile with the second-fastest time in history.
After a swift opening lap of 59.93, Tsegay settled into a steadier pace and went through 800m in 2:03.45. At the bell, Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull had closed the gap on the Ethiopian, but Tsegay had saved something for the end and kicked to victory in a national record of 4:11.88. Hull was second in 4:13.68, an Oceanian record.
Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred smashed her own national record and world lead to win the 200m in convincing fashion. The St Lucian was in the lead as she came off the bend, then continued to open up a significant leading margin, crossing the line in a meeting record of 21.71.

Alfred&rsquo;s training partner, 2019 world champion Dina Asher-Smith, finished strongly to take second in a season&rsquo;s best of 22.25, just ahead of compatriot Amy Hunt, who set a PB of 22.31 in third.
Earlier in the afternoon, Asher-Smith and Hunt had teamed up to win the women&rsquo;s 4x100m in a world-leading 41.69.
There were also meeting records from Kenyan middle-distance runners Phanuel Koech and Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
Eighteen-year-old Koech, who has burst on to the international scene this year, ran like a seasoned professional in the men&rsquo;s 1500m, making his way into the lead on the last lap to win in a UK all-comers&rsquo; record of 3:28.82. World champion Josh Kerr was second in a season&rsquo;s best of 3:29.37.
For a brief moment it looked as though Olympic champion Wanyonyi would be beaten in the men&rsquo;s 800m. He had led for most of the way, but world champion Marco Arop took command on the final bend. The Canadian then faded slightly while Wanyonyi responded with a final burst to take the win in a meeting record of 1:42.00. Arop was second with a season&rsquo;s best of 1:42.22 while Max Burgin was third in a PB of 1:42.37, elevating him to third on the British all-time list.
<h2>Bol wins again</h2>
World champion Femke Bol made it three wins in a row in London. The soaking wet track ruled out any chance of an improvement on the Diamond League record she set last year, but the manner of her victory was still highly impressive.
She won by more than a second in 52.10 from USA&rsquo;s Jasmine Jones (53.18) and Jamaica&rsquo;s Andrenette Knight (53.79).
While the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles and 200m went to the form book, there were surprise victories in the men&rsquo;s sprint events.
Oblique Seville exploded into an early lead in the men&rsquo;s 100m and maintained it to the end, winning comfortably in 9.86. Olympic champion Noah Lyles, contesting his first 100m of the year, was second in 10.00 ahead of world bronze medallist Zharnel Hughes (10.02).
In the men&rsquo;s 400m, Olympic silver medallist Matt Hudson-Smith and world leader Zakithi Nene were locked in battle down the home straight, but Diamond League champion Charlie Dobson came striding through in the closing stages to win in a PB of 44.14. Hudson-Smith held on for second (44.27), just ahead of Nene (44.29).
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Medina Eisa won the women&rsquo;s 5000m in what was one of the deepest races of all time at the distance. She clocked 14:30.57 to finish ahead of compatriot Fantaye Belayneh (14:30.90) with Australia&rsquo;s Rose Davies setting an Oceanian record of 14:31.45 in third. A record number of 13 women finished inside 14:40, including Britain&rsquo;s Innes Fitzgerald, who set a European U20 record of 14:39.56 in 12th.
Elsewhere on the track, Olympic bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell came through in the closing stages to win the women&rsquo;s 800m in a season&rsquo;s best of 1:56.74. USA&rsquo;s Addison Wiley was second in 1:57.43.
<h2>Olympic champions beaten in the jumps</h2>
There were several close contests in the jumping events, many of which resulted in surprise victories.
New Zealand&rsquo;s Olivia McTaggart won the women&rsquo;s pole vault on countback, beating world champion Katie Moon, European champion Angelica Moser and USA&rsquo;s Emily Grove, all four clearing 4.73m.
Morgan Lake was the only woman to get over 1.96m in the high jump, earning a shock win over Olympic champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who finished fourth with 1.93m.
Both long jump contests were won by just one centimetre. Two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo uncorked a leap of 6.93m in the fifth round to take the lead. Larissa Iapichino responded with 6.92m in the final round but it wasn&rsquo;t quite enough to reclaim the lead.
In the men&rsquo;s event, Jamaica&rsquo;s Wayne Pinnock beat Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, 8.20m to 8.19m.

Having provided some of the standout moments at the past two editions of the London Athletics Meet, world champions Noah Lyles and Femke Bol return to the Wanda Diamond League meeting in the British capital on Saturday (19) looking to work their magic once more.
For the third year in a row, Lyles will take on Botswana&rsquo;s Letsile Tebogo, the world athlete of the year. Just 0.03 separated them when they clashed over 200m in London two years ago, Lyles winning in 19.47. When they raced in London last year, both men emerged with 100m PBs, Lyles once again winning, 9.81 to Tebogo&rsquo;s 9.88.
After a slightly delayed start to his Diamond League campaign, Lyles returned to action in Monaco last week and beat Tebogo over 200m, 19.88 to 19.97. The Olympic 100m champion will be keen to keep his London streak alive, but Tebogo will be fired up after their recent Monaco showdown.
On Saturday they will line up over 100m in a race that also includes South Africa&rsquo;s Akani Simbine, who finished in between Lyles and Tebogo in London last year. World indoor champion Jeremiah Azu, world 100m bronze medallist Zharnel Hughes and Jamaican duo Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake are also part of the high-quality line-up.
Bol is another athlete who has fond memories of this meeting. The Dutch 400m hurdler broke 52 seconds for the first time when winning in London in 2023, clocking a Diamond League record of 51.45. She improved on that when winning in London last year with 51.30.
Fresh from clocking a world-leading 51.95 in Monaco, Bol will take on a field that includes USA&rsquo;s Jasmine Jones and Jamaica&rsquo;s Andrenette Knight.
Having broken 10.80 in her past three Diamond League races over 100m, Olympic champion Julien Alfred moves up to the 200m in London, where she&rsquo;ll be hoping to improve on her world-leading mark of 21.88. She&rsquo;ll face 2019 world champion Dina Asher-Smith, Olympic finalist Daryll Neita, Spanish record-holder Jael Bestue and Ireland&rsquo;s Rhasidat Adeleke.
In the men&rsquo;s 400m, world leader Zakithi Nene takes on Matthew Hudson-Smith and Muzala Samukonga, the Olympic silver and bronze medallists respectively.
<h2>Clash of the discus giants</h2>
In the men&rsquo;s discus, world record-holder Mykolas Alekna takes on the three men who, between them, have claimed every global title on offer from 2019 onwards.
Alekna, who won in Eugene at the start of the month, will take on two-time world champion Daniel Stahl, Olympic champion Roje Stona and 2022 world champion Kristjan Ceh, who has won his past nine competitions.
The men&rsquo;s long jump is of a similarly high quality as the field includes all of the medallists from the 2024 Olympics, 2023 World Championships and 2025 World Indoor Championships.
World leader Miltiadis Tentoglou, winner of multiple major titles, takes on world indoor champion Mattia Furlani, Australia&rsquo;s Liam Adcock, Swiss decathlete Simon Ehammer and leading Jamaican trio Tajay Gayle, Carey McLeod and Wayne Pinnock.
The women&rsquo;s event, meanwhile, brings together two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo, world indoor champion Claire Bryant, European indoor champion Larissa Iapichino, 2023 European indoor champion Jazmin Sawyers and world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Elsewhere in the jumps, Olympic champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh takes on 2022 world champion Eleanor Patterson in the women&rsquo;s high jump, while world champion Katie Moon faces 2024 world indoor champion Molly Caudery in the women&rsquo;s pole vault.
<h2>World Championships 800m podium rematch</h2>
The three men who claimed the 800m medals at the 2023 World Championships will reunite over two laps in London.
Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who recently clocked a world-leading 1:41.44 in Monaco, will face world champion Marco Arop of Canada and world bronze medallist Ben Pattison. The field also includes Spanish record-holder Mohamed Attaoui and 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier.
Kenyan teenager Phanuel Koech has been one of the revelations of this season, having set a world U20 1500m record of 3:27.72 in Paris in what was just his second race over the distance, then following it with a 3:29.05 victory in Ostrava.
But the majority of the home crowd will be cheering on the likes of world champion Josh Kerr, British 3000m and 5000m record-holder George Mills and 2022 world champion Jake Wightman. Australia&rsquo;s Cameron Myers and Portugal&rsquo;s Isaac Nader will also fancy their chances, given their recent good form.
Two-time world champion Gudaf Tsegay returns to the scene of her 4:16.14 PB and headlines a women&rsquo;s mile field that also includes Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull and Ethiopian youngster Birke Haylom.
A closely matched women&rsquo;s 800m field, meanwhile, features Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell, USA&rsquo;s Addison Wiley, 2019 world champion Halimah Nakaayi and Olympic finalist Shafiqua Maloney.

Having provided some of the standout moments at the past two editions of the London Athletics Meet, world champions Noah Lyles and Femke Bol return to the Wanda Diamond League meeting in the British capital on Saturday (19) looking to work their magic once more.

Lyles and Bol seek third successive London victories

World-leading meeting records were set by Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Femke Bol at Herculis, but perhaps the biggest talking point came from Noah Lyles, who won the 200m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Monaco on Friday (11).
The Olympic 100m champion hadn&rsquo;t raced since April due to minor injury issues in his ankle, but any questions over the US sprinter&rsquo;s form were answered swiftly within the space of 20 seconds after the gun fired for the men&rsquo;s 200m.
Lyles, who was drawn in lane seven, just one lane outside Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, got a solid start and was level with the world leader as they came off the bend. The multiple world champion showed no signs of rustiness as he held his form well in the closing stages, pulling away from Tebogo to win in 19.88. Tebogo was second in 19.97, just 0.02 ahead of Zimbabwe&rsquo;s Makanakaishe Charamba.
Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi lived up to expectations in what was arguably the toughest test of his career so far. Not only did the men&rsquo;s 800m reunite all eight finalists from the 2024 Olympics, it also had the addition of world indoor champion Josh Hoey and Oceanian record-holder Peter Bol.
Wanyonyi tracked the pacemaker through the first half as 400m was covered in 49.21, 0.07 quicker than David Rudisha&rsquo;s first lap when the legendary Kenyan set his world record. Once the pacemaker dropped out, Wanyonyi held the lead until the end and pulled away from Hoey, who was doing his best to hold off Algeria&rsquo;s Djamel Sedjati.
Wanyonyi crossed the line in 1:41.44, shaving 0.02 from the meeting record Sedjati set last year and racking up his sixth career sub-1:42 clocking &ndash; just one shy of Rudisha&rsquo;s record tally. Hoey was second in a PB of 1:42.01 with Sedjati placing third (1:42.20). Bol came through to set an Oceanian record of 1:42.55 in fourth, one place ahead of world champion Marco Arop (1:42.73).
Like fellow Herculis debutant Wanyonyi, Femke Bol also ensured her first Monaco appearance was a good one. The world champion bided her time in the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles and pulled away gradually from former world record-holder Dalilah Muhammad to win in a world-leading 51.95, breaking one of the oldest track meeting records at Herculis.
Muhammad was second in a season&rsquo;s best of 52.58, also inside the previous meeting record set by Lashina Demus back in 2009. Olympic silver medallist Anna Cockrell was third in 52.91, also a season&rsquo;s best.

Nelly Chepchirchir maintained her undefeated record in 2025 to win the women&rsquo;s 1000m in one of the fastest times in history.
The Kenyan, no doubt inspired by the recent record-breaking feats of compatriots Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet, sat back in the field during the early stages, allowing Jessica Hull to take the leading spot behind the pacemaker.
Chepchirchir moved up in the second half and took the lead just before 800m, reached in 1:58.41, still inside world record pace. The record slipped out of her grasp in the final stages, but Chepchirchir pulled away from the field to win in 2:29.77, elevating her to fourth on the world all-time list.
USA&rsquo;s Addison Wiley came through for second place in a North American record of 2:30.71 with Hull finishing third in an Oceanian record of 2:30.96.
Yomif Kejelcha was similarly dominant in the men&rsquo;s 5000m. The two-time world indoor champion led through 3000m in 7:39.47 with Sweden&rsquo;s Andreas Almgren close behind, but he dropped out soon after.
Kejelcha, meanwhile, then pulled away from his remaining opponents and won comfortably in 12:49.46, his third consecutive sub-12:50 time this year. France&rsquo;s Jimmy Gressier came through for second place in 12:53.36 ahead of Bahrain&rsquo;s Birhanu Balew (12.53.51). In fourth, Mohamed Abdilaahi broke the long-standing German record with 12:53.63.
In the 400m flat, world and Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino had to call upon all of her strength in the home straight to reel in Aaliyah Butler. Paulino caught the US youngster just before the line to win in 49.06, while Butler was rewarded with a PB of 49.09 in second. Jamaica&rsquo;s Nickisha Pryce (49.63) and Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka (49.72) set season&rsquo;s bests in third and fourth.
Paulino wasn&rsquo;t the only world and Olympic champion who had to pull out something special to hold on to victory. Morocco&rsquo;s Soufiane El Bakkali had initially tried to attack the world record in the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase. He carved out a huge lead at the half-way point but his pace then began to fade.
On the final lap, Japan&rsquo;s Ryuji Miura started motoring and even caught El Bakalli at the top of the home straight, but the Moroccan responded and sprinted to the finish line in 8:03.18. Miura was rewarded with a huge national record of 8:03.43 and Kenya&rsquo;s Edmund Serem set a PB of 8:04.00 in third.

<h2>Convincing wins for Alfred, Tapper and Cunningham</h2>
Olympic champion Julien Alfred returned to winning ways after her recent surprise defeat in Eugene. The St Lucian sprinter trailed USA&rsquo;s Jacious Sears at the start of the women&rsquo;s 100m, but came through strongly to win in 10.79, running into a -1.4m/s headwind. Sears held on for second in 11.02.
Megan Tapper equalled her recent PB of 12.34 to take a surprise victory in the women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles. Ditaji Kambundji was second in 12.43 in a race where Olympic champion Masai Russell (12.57) and US compatriot Grace Stark (12.64) struggled over the early barriers.
USA&rsquo;s 2022 world silver medallist Trey Cunningham notched up his second Diamond League victory in a row, following on from his win in Paris last month. The 26-year-old put together a near faultless run to lead a US 1-2-3 in 13.09 from world leader Cordell Tinch (13.14) and 19-year-old Ja&rsquo;Kobe Tharp (13.17), who was making his Diamond League debut.
<h2>Meeting record for Duplantis, world leads for Scott and Sanghyeok</h2>
All three jumping events on the programme produced notable performances.
Pole vault superstar Mondo Duplantis won the men&rsquo;s pole vault and claimed the meeting record with a winning clearance of 6.05m. There are now just two Diamond League meeting records (Rabat and London) left for the Swede to claim. Greece&rsquo;s Emmanouil Karalis and Australia&rsquo;s Kurtis Marschall were second and third respectively, both clearing 5.92m.
Jamaica&rsquo;s Jordan Scott continued his strong run of form to win the men&rsquo;s triple jump. He set a PB of 17.44m in round five then improved in the final round to 17.52m &ndash; the farthest outdoor jump in the world this year. Algeria&rsquo;s Yasser Triki was second (17.23m).
World indoor champion Woo Sanghyeok also produced the best outdoor jump in the world this year, winning the men&rsquo;s high jump with 2.34m. Czechia&rsquo;s Jan Stefela was second with 2.32m.
European champion Jessica Schilder uncorked a final-round effort of 20.39m to win the women&rsquo;s shot put from world champion Chase Jackson (20.06m) and world indoor champion Sarah Mitton (20.00m).

Lyles back with a bang in Monaco

World 1500m record-holder Faith Kipyegon will step up to the 3000m in Silesia, while Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan will drop down to the mile in London, organisers of the Wanda Diamond League meetings have announced.
Kenya&rsquo;s Kipyegon improved her own world 1500m record to 3:48.68 in Eugene earlier this month and the world mile record-holder ran the fastest mile in history by a woman in an unofficial and unratifiable exhibition event in Paris in June. Now she prepares to race the 3000m at the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial on 16 August.
The multiple world 1500m and 5000m gold medallist has a 3000m PB of 8:23.55 but that was set back in 2014 when Kipyegon was just 20. Since then, she has claimed three Olympic 1500m titles and her 5000m PB of 14:05.20 was also a world record when she ran it in 2023.
Also announced for Silesia are Femke Bol and Karsten Warholm in the 400m hurdles, Ethan Katzberg and Camryn Rogers in the hammer, Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem in the javelin, Julien Alfred in the 100m and Grant Holloway in the 110m hurdles.
While Hassan is now an Olympic gold medallist in the 5000m, 10,000m and marathon, she is also a former world record-holder in the mile and it is that shorter distance she will contest at the London Athletics Meet on 19 July.
The Dutch star has secured success in London in the past, taking victory on her marathon debut in 2023 before finishing third in the 2025 event. She last competed on the track in the London Athletics Meet in 2023, finishing third in the 5000m in a European record of 14:13.42.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve learned so much about myself racing in London, both on the road and the track, and I&rsquo;m excited to return and to compete again at the Olympic stadium,&rdquo; said Hassan, whose 4:12.33 mile time from Monaco in 2019 remains the European record.
&ldquo;Last year my curiosity pushed me to take a risk and compete in three distances at the Paris Games. I know I&rsquo;m probably a bit crazy to mix it up so much, but I like the combination of track and road and I want to see what is possible,&rdquo; added the 32-year-old, who claimed Olympic 5000m and 10,000m bronze as well as marathon gold last year. &ldquo;Now that the London Marathon is over, I will be returning to shorter distances for the track season. I enjoy these different races, tactics and distances, and I am looking forward to seeing what I can do in the Diamond League mile in London.&rdquo;
