Surin is one of the leading figures of Canadian athletics. He ran the third leg for the magnificent Canadian 4x100m relay team that won the World Championships in Gothenburg 95, the Olympics in Atlanta 96 and the World Championships again in Athens 97. Two-time 60m world indoor champion (93 and 95), 34-year-old Surin reached his peak in 1999 when he finished second in Sevilles 100m final equaling Donovan Baileys Canadian and former world record of 9.84. Born in Haiti, he moved to Canada in 1975 and set six Canadian 100m records between 1989 and 1999. He competed in the triple jump at the 1986 World Junior championships and in the long jump at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
