Geoffrey Kamworor won the 2014 Bogota International Half Marathon, the only IAAF Gold Label Road Race in South America, on Sunday (27).
In a race held at 2600 metres altitude, it was inevitable that the times were never going to be fast but knowledge of the course and conditions will certainly have helped both winners.
Kamworor, the 2013 winner and 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships gold medallist, appeared to run easily at the beginning edging away from the leading pack from the midway point in the race.
He crossed the line in 1:03:18 with fellow Kenyan Dickson Chumba, the 2014 Tokyo Marathon champion, second in 1:04:10.
Kiplimo Kimutai made it an all-Kenyan men’s podium when he finished third in 1:04:27.
Jeptoo won the women’s race by almost two minutes, coming home in 1:13.39.
Ethiopians Mare Dibaba and Gelete Burka finished second and third in 1:15:34 and 1:15:38 respectively.
Kenya’s Gladys Cherono, the 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships winner, had a below-par race and finished fifth in 1:17:14.
