PeaceHealth signs on as Official Healthcare Supplier to World Athletics Championships Oregon22

The local organizing committee (LOC) for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 is pleased to announce the signing of PeaceHealth as the event’s Official Healthcare Supplier. 

“We are enormously excited to be partnering with PeaceHealth for this event,” said Sarah Massey, CEO of Oregon22, LLC. “Both organizations are eager to showcase all that makes Oregon special, and with PeaceHealth’s long history of taking care of our community, it is a perfect fit.”

PeaceHealth is a not-for-profit healthcare organization with medical centers, critical access hospitals and medical clinics located in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. PeaceHealth advocates for and supports all aspects of community health in Lane County; this can be seen not just through their commitment to exceptional medicine and compassionate care but also through community programs such as Strides for Social Justice and PeaceHealth Rides.

“We are thrilled to welcome the world to Oregon, and to be a part of the medical care for this amazing event,” said Todd Salnas, Chief Executive of PeaceHealth Oregon Network. “While we have been involved in major sporting events in the past, including the U.S. Olympic Trials, this is the first time we have had the opportunity to play a significant role in an international event of this scope and size – and prominence.”

As part of the agreement, PeaceHealth will be providing the WCH Oregon22 LOC Medical Director. This position serves to deliver the medical services to all constituent groups across the event, including personnel, facilities, supplies and equipment of the official sites, venues, and accommodation areas. 

Dr. Hans Notenboom, PeaceHealth Urgent Care physician lead for Eugene/Springfield, will serve as the LOC Medical Director. Dr. Notenboom has extensive experience supporting major sporting events, including as an onsite physician during the 2014 World Junior Championships in Eugene.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the preparations for this international event,” said Dr. Notenboom. “The partnership between PeaceHealth and the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will support an outstanding experience for the world-class teams that are arriving in Eugene this summer.” 

Joining the medical planning team will be Dr. Kevin deWeber, Director and Founder of PeaceHealth SW Washington Sports Medicine Fellowship in Vancouver, Wash., who will help support Dr. Notenboom in this very important work. Dr. deWeber’s experience providing medical directorship for large-scale sporting events will be a value-add to these efforts.
