Ndiss Kaba Badji and Kène Ndoye, who are based at the CIAD international athletics centre which is part of the IAAF’s worldwide HPTC network, produced some notable long jumping on Thursday 20 May in Dakar’s Stade Léopold Senghor.
Kène Ndoye, the 2003 World Indoor Triple Jump medallist, produced a 6.78m leap in the women's Long Jump but the wind was over the allowable limit (2m/s) for records.
However, Ndiss Kaba Badji jumped 8.12 in the men’s event in a legal wind (0.9 m/s) to establish a personal best (previous 8.00m). The performance booked his ticket to the Olympic Games.
Only two Senegalese have gone over 8m before Cheikh Touré (8.46m African record) and Badara Mbengue (8.04m).
So far seven athletes are named for Athens – Amy Mbacké Thiam (400m), Fatou Binetou Fall (400m), Kène Ndoye (TJ), Tacko Diouf (400mH), Oumar Loum (200m), Abdoulaye Wagne (800m) and Ndiss Kaba Badji (LJ).
