Dakar, Senegalever Africa International Sports Convention has drawn more than 200 delegates from all over the world to the Senegalese capital, Dakar, including IAAF President Lamine Diack who made a keynote speech yesterday.
The conference, which started Thursday (1 Feb), is examining issues involving the development of sport in Africa.
Among the African IOC members attending the meeting are Lassana Palenfo of Ivory Coast, South African Sam Ramsamy, Algerian Mustapha Larfaoui, who is also President of FINA.
Chinese Taipei IOC member and new Boxing Federation President C.K. Wu is also at the meeting.
IOC Sports Director Kelly Fairweather, a South African, is one of the panellists, as is former IOC international cooperation chief, Fekrou Kidane, from Ethiopia, while another sports leader in Dakar is FIBA President Bob Elphinston.
Organized by Senegal sports marketing firm Jappo, the conference ends on 3 February with a Gala that features the inauguration of an African Sports Hall of Fame.
