For Kostas Kenteris the road to the Olympic Stadium of Athens and the Olympic Games, goes through the stadium of Heraklion and Super Grand Prix “Tsiklitiria”.
The reigning Olympic and European champion, and former World gold medallist will make his date at the former of these events on Sunday 4 July in the city of Crete, for the IAAF Super Grand Prix, his second 200m outing of the summer.
In the European Cup Division One races in Plovdiv, Bulgaria at the weekend, Kostas Kenteris won in his event with 20.33, having previously participated in the National championships in the Athens stadium where he ran and won the 100m in 10.18.
In this year’s Super Grand Prix “Tsiklitiria”, Kenteris’ opposition at 200m will compose among others Britain Julian Golding (20.18), Stephan Buckland from Mauritius (20.06) and Brian Dzingai from Zimbabwe (20.12). Kenteris won last year’s meet in 20.30.
Katerina Thanou has now recovered from an injury which has upset her training preparations for the summer. This year Thanou who was the Olympic silver medallist over 100m in Sydney, has already won the national title in 11.21, and at the “Tsiklitiria” she will face 2001 Edmonton World champion Zhanna Block, and the in form Belarussian Yuliya Nesterenko, who won in the international meeting “Vardinogiannia” on Wednesday with 11.02.
