Double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in London on Sunday (12 Dec).

Holmes had been the hottest favourite ever to win the award after her exploits in Athens where victories in the 800 and 1500 metres made her a national heroine back home in Britain.

"After 20 years of dreaming, I finally got my award not once but twice," an emotional Holmes said after receiving her award from former double Olympic 1500m champion Sebastian Coe, who is an IAAF Council Member.
