Davis flies to 13.08 World junior high hurdles best in Port of Spain

PortofSpain, Trinidad & TobagoWayne Davis of the US set a World junior best * in the 110m Hurdles to highlight action on the first day of the Pan-American Junior Championships at Hasley Crawford Field in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday (31 July).

[NOTE: Updated 14:00 CET]. The 17-year-old from Raleigh, who won the World Youth title in 2007, clocked 13.08 over the 99cm barriers, improving the 13.23 mark by Artur Noga of Poland in 2006. The wind reading was 2.0 metres per second.

[NOTE: Liu Xiang, the 2004 Olympic gold medallist, remains the fastest junior over the senior hurdles (1.067m), with his 13.12 set in 2002 in Lausanne.]

Elsewhere on Day 1, US junior champion Marcus Rowland sped to the fourth fastest ever junior performance in the 100m with his 10.03 victory. Rowland was also blazing earlier, clocking 10.06 in the rounds.

Chalonda Goodman, also from the USA, won the women's 100m in 11.22. Jordan Hasay, the 2007 World Youth 1500m silver medallist, won her event comfortably in 4:26.26.
