Two-time world indoor shot put champion Tom Walsh and Spanish triple jump record-holder Jordan Diaz Fortun will be among the star attractions at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold final in Madrid on 23 February.

Walsh, the 2017 world champion, holds the outdoor (22.90m) and indoor (22.31m) Oceania records. He ended 2023 with a season’s best of 22.69m, the second-best performance of his career, and opened his 2024 campaign with a 21.17m effort in Ostrava.

He will be one of four 22-metre performers competing in Madrid. World indoor champion and South American record-holder Darlan Romani of Brazil is always a formidable opponent, so too is European indoor champion Zane Weir of Italy.

Rajindra Campbell, who holds the Jamaican record of 22.22m, and African record-holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi are also in the line-up. The meeting record of 21.91m, set by Konrad Bukowiecki in 2022, could come under threat as athletes test their shape ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.

Elsewhere in the field events, Jordan Diaz Fortun will return to the scene of his Spanish indoor triple jump record. The former world U18 and U20 champion jumped 17.59m in Madrid last year, just eight months after setting a national outdoor record of 17.87m.
