Organisers of the Millrose Games have announced that double Olympic medallist Gabby Thomas will headline the 60m field for the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in New York on 29 January.
Thomas ran 21.61 to win the 200m at last year’s Olympic Trials, making her the second-fastest woman in history at that time. She went on to claim the bronze medal in Tokyo in 21.87, the second-fastest time of her career, before adding a silver medal in the 4x100m.
“I’m excited to open my 2022 season at Millrose in the 60m,” said Thomas, who has a 60m PB of 7.21. “It’ll be a great opportunity to work on my speed against some of the top competition in the country.”
Thomas will be challenged by Jamaica’s 2018 double world U20 champion and Olympic 4x100m champion Briana Williams, 2016 Olympic 4x100m champion English Gardner, 2020 NCAA champion Mikiah Brisco – fastest in the field with a PB of 7.04 – world 4x100m bronze medallist Kiara Parker, 2019 NCAA 400m silver medallist Chloe Abbott, and 16-year-old Shawnti Jackson, who will be chasing the US high school record of 7.19.
Other top athletes so far announced for the Millrose Games include 2016 world indoor 60m champion Trayvon Bromell, world 100m hurdles record-holder Kendra Harrison, Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser, world shot put champion Joe Kovacs, Olympic 800m champion Athing Mu, Olympic pole vault champion Katie Nageotte, world indoor pole vault champion Sandi Morris and Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Josh Kerr.
