Organisers of the Czech Indoor Gala have announced that world and Olympic long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou will compete at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Ostrava on 30 January.

Over the past few years, the Greek long jumper has won all three global titles on offer, as well as five continental crowns (two outdoors, three indoors). He also won at the Czech Indoor Gala in 2018, when he was still a teenager, and in 2020.

The Czech Indoor Gala will be Tentoglou’s season opener for 2024, and he’ll have the meeting record of 8.21m in his sights.

“I’m looking forward to a successful start to the indoor season, which I would like to end with a successful defence of my world indoor title,” said the 25-year-old, who will take on Czech record-holder Radek Juska and rising talent Petr Meindlschmid.

World 4x400m champion Lieke Klaver will also return to the Czech Indoor Gala. The Dutch sprinter is a two-time world 400m finalist and took European indoor 400m silver last year, having opened her 2023 campaign with a 51.00 meeting record in Ostrava.

She will face 2018 European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic, 2020 Czech Indoor Gala winner Lada Vondrova, fellow world mixed 4x400m bronze medallist Tereza Petrzilkova and European U20 champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel.
