Four of Japan’s leading sprinters will take to the 100m start line at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium on 8 May.
Shuhei Tada, Yoshihide Kiryu and Yuki Koike featured on Japan’s 4x100m squad at the 2019 World Championships and at last year’s Olympic Games. They took world bronze in Doha three years ago, setting an Asian record of 37.43, and went on to reach the Olympic final in Tokyo. Tada and Kiryu were also on the Japanese team that earned world 4x100m bronze in 2017.
Kiryu and Koike both have sub-10-second PBs. Kiryu’s 9.98 stood as the Japanese record for two years, while Koike – the 2018 Asian Games 200m champion – also clocked 9.98 in 2019.
Tada, meanwhile, won the Japanese 100m title last year, having clocked a PB of 10.01 earlier in the season. Bruno Dede, who finished second in the 100m and 200m at the Japanese Championships, will also be in the line-up in Tokyo in May.
