Global champions Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Cordell Tinch will be among the athletes in action at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial when the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting returns to Zagreb on 24-26 June.
The event begins with the Zagreb City Challenge, held next to the Zagreb Fountains. There, Ukraine’s Mahuchikh will headline a high jump field also featuring home star Jana Koščak.
Olympic champion Mahuchikh, who cleared a world record of 2.10m in 2024, had a great start to her year as she regained the world indoor title in Poland in March.
She will compete in Zagreb for the first time and Croatia’s world U20 heptathlon champion Koščak is looking forward to facing her on home soil.
“This will be my first time competing with Yaroslava and I hope it will be a positive experience, that she will push me to a good result,” said the 19-year-old.
The Ivan Ivančić Memorial will take place at the same location the following day, when USA’s two-time world champion Joe Kovacs will take on New Zealand’s multiple world gold medallist Tom Walsh in the shot put.
Like Mahuchikh, Walsh impressed during the indoor season – winning a fourth gold and his seventh medal at the World Indoor Championships.
The Mladost Sports Park will then welcome athletes on the 26 June, when USA’s world 110m hurdles champion Tinch is sure to attack the meeting record of 12.98, which has stood since 1999.
Tinch clocked 12.87 last year – a time that places him joint fourth on the world all-time list.
The men's long jump will feature world U20 champion Roko Farkaš, while world indoor fifth-place finisher Marino Bloudek will line up for the 800m.
