As the most popular exercise activity in the world, the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships (WRW) is a model event for a host city looking to champion diversity, inclusivity and sustainability.
The WRW is a biennial event held over one/two days and consists of six/seven races including Women’s and Men’s 20km and 35km races, U20 Women’s and Men’s 10km races, as well as potentially a Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay comprising of one Woman and one Man. The event takes place on a flat 1-2km looped road course typically at an iconic host city location.
The WRW aims to highlight the walkability of a host city and it can be a powerful catalyst for contributing to public health and sport for all. This event is likely to capture attention, showcase pedestrianised areas and promote exercise.
