A Member Federation is a national governing body for athletics affiliated to World Athletics.
Only one federation per country or territory may be affiliated to World Athletics and it must comply with the rules and regulations of World Athletics.
The total number of countries and territories currently affiliated to World Athletics is 214, which places World Athletics among the world’s largest sporting organisations, with more members than the United Nations.
World Athletics Member Federations are grouped into six continental areas: Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central America & the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America. Each Area Association has its own constitution and rules of operation, which are aligned with World Athletics.
