Eric Lemming was the first official world record holder of the IAAF era for the men’s javelin throw with 62.32m set on 29 September. Before that performance he achieved another nine unofficial marks in other competitions which were ratified at Swedish records. Lemming won four gold medals at the Olympic Games, the 1908 London and 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games javelin throw titles which along with wins in the freestyle javelin competitions of the 1906 Interim Olympics in Athens and the London Games.
