IAAF President Sebastian Coe and ConSudAtle President Roberto Gesta de Melo will jointly host a dinner show in the Hotel Panamericano Buenos Aires on 27 July to mark ConSudAtle’s centenary.
Organised by IAAF Heritage to celebrate 100 years of the South American athletics federation, all 13 member federations from the area will be represented at the show.
The show will include video footage of key moments in South American athletics history and a presentation of the ‘Golden Heroes’ book of South American athletics, while several special guests and legendary athletes will be in attendance.
During the week of the centenary celebrations, the Hotel Panamericano Buenos Aires will host the 214th IAAF Council Meeting and ConSudAtle Congress. The hotel lobby will also display a selection of historic items. Entitled ‘Athletics and Great Events in the First Half of the 20th Century (1900-1950)’, the artefacts are just some of the 200 items which have been donated this year to the IAAF Heritage Collection by ConSudAtle to mark its centenary.
Founded on 24 May 1918 in Buenos Aires, ConSudAtle is the oldest athletics area association in the world. Founding member federations Argentina, Chile and Uruguay were joined by Brazil in 1922, Ecuador and Peru in 1925, Bolivia in 1930, and Colombia in 1937. Venezuela and Paraguay followed later, while Panama, Guyana and Surinam joined more recently.
