Hundreds of the world’s best athletes will head to Poland for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 from 20-22 March.

It's the pinnacle of the global indoor season and around 500 athletes from more than 130 Member Federations are expected to compete across the 27 events during the three days of action.

Which disciplines are contested at the World Athletics Indoor Championships?


There are 27 disciplines on the programme for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26, meaning 81 medals will be awarded.

There are an equal number of disciplines for women and men – 13 each, plus one mixed event.

Do athletes compete in the same disciplines indoors as they do outdoors?


Some athletes will compete in different disciplines in indoor – or short track – competition. For example, sprinters may specialise in the 100m outdoors, but they will race the 60m indoors. There is no 100m or 200m at the World Indoor Championships and the combined events disciplines are the pentathlon for women and the heptathlon for men (compared to the heptathlon for women and the decathlon for men outdoors).

The indoor pentathlon for women comprises five events undertaken on one day: 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, 800m.

The indoor heptathlon for men comprises seven events undertaken across two days: 60m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, 1000m.

The mixed 4x400m makes its World Indoor Championships debut in Kujawy Pomorze.

How do athletes qualify and gain selection for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26?


The qualification system for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 runs from 1 November 2025 to 8 March 2026, with qualification based on entry standards and top indoor performance lists. 

The ‘Road to Kujawy Pomorze’ online tool is designed to help athletes, media and fans track the qualification process. The tool does not, and will not, indicate which athletes have been selected for entry by their member federation. Final entries will be published nearer to the time of the World Indoor Championships.

Changes in traffic organisation


Due to the championships, temporary changes to traffic organisation will be introduced in the area around the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń.

 

Bema Street
From 17 to 23 March, Bema Street, on the section next to the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń, will be partially closed to traffic. During this time, vehicle traffic will be redirected via detours.

 

The right lane of the road (on the Arena side) will be closed on the section from the Municipal Recreation and Sports Center building to the end of the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń grounds.

 

The left lane will remain open, and two-way traffic will operate on this section. Drivers are asked to exercise particular caution and pay attention to temporary road signage.

 

Staromostowa Route
Additionally, in order to improve traffic flow in the city, the Staromostowa Route will be temporarily opened from 13 to 22 March along the entire section from Plac Niepodległości to Dekerta Street.

 

These changes are intended to ensure efficient transport service for the event and the safety of participants and residents.
