Bahamian hurdles star Devynne Charlton equalled her own world record* to secure her third successive world indoor 60m hurdles title at the&nbsp;World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26&nbsp;on Sunday (22).
Clocking 7.65, the 30-year-old matched the mark she achieved to win her first gold in Glasgow in 2024 &ndash; becoming the first three-time winner of this title.
Nadine Visser of the Netherlands secured silver in 7.73, while Pia Skrzyszowska delighted home fans by matching that time &ndash; just five thousandths of a second back &ndash; for a Polish record and the bronze medal.
All eight finalists clocked 7.90 or quicker. Switzerland&rsquo;s world 100m hurdles champion Ditaji Kambundji finished fourth in 7.75, while Jamaica&rsquo;s Megan Simmonds matched her PB with 7.82 for fifth.
The semifinals had given a signal of things to come. Skrzyszowska and Ditaji Kambundji had run a joint world lead of 7.76 but Charlton went even quicker in the next race, clocking 7.74 despite easing slightly as she reached the finish line.
They returned for the final just over an hour later, Charlton lining up in lane six alongside home favourite Skrzyszowska.
&ldquo;I didn't have the best start, I stumbled a bit but I tried to fix it as fast as I could,&rdquo; said Charlton, who adds this third world indoor title to a medal haul that also includes bronze from 2022.
She now owns three of the four fastest winning times in World Indoor Championships history &ndash; 7.65, 7.65 and 7.72.
&ldquo;I knew I had run the world record,&rdquo; she added. &ldquo;I knew I had it when I crossed the finish line. I know I could have run a bit faster, too, but not having the best start, I will take it. Since Glasgow, I have been improving a lot, and today I am really proud to win my third world indoor title in a row.&rdquo;
Visser added a silver medal to the bronze medal she claimed in 2018.
&ldquo;I had to run a record to win, that is why I have to stay happy that I came second &ndash; I did my best race,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I still have some space in which to improve, especially over my first hurdle and with my acceleration from the blocks.&rdquo;
Skrzyszowska&rsquo;s bronze was a second hurdles medal for the host nation, after Jakub Szymański&rsquo;s win in the men&rsquo;s event on day two.
&ldquo;Polish hurdling is becoming a global power,&rdquo; said the 2024 world indoor bronze medallist. &ldquo;I did a strong dip at the finish line, and it paid off. Honestly, I do not know which medal I rate more highly. The one from Glasgow gave me the belief that I could do it, but each of them means a lot to me.&rdquo;
Charlton was joined by her compatriot Denisha Cartwright in the final &ndash; Cartwright finishing seventh in 7.90. There were almost three Bahamian athletes in the final, Charisma Taylor missing out on a place by just five thousandths of a second with a PB of 7.91.

Charlton equals world record to win third world indoor 60m hurdles title in Kujawy Pomorze

World short track record-holder Keely Hodgkinson won her first world title with a dominant display in the 800m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Sunday (22).
She won in style, too, crossing the line in a championship record of 1:55.30 &ndash; the second-fastest indoor performance in history behind her own world record of 1:54.87, set last month &ndash; and claimed Britain&rsquo;s third gold medal within the space of 35 minutes.
The Olympic champion had impressed throughout the rounds, but nothing in athletics is guaranteed &ndash; especially in an indoor 800m championship final.
She did her best to stay out of trouble, taking an early lead through 200m in 27.26, then reaching 400m in 56.96. Ethiopia&rsquo;s Nigist Getachew, the silver medallist in Nanjing last year, tried to go with the Briton but ultimately paid the price.
Hodgkinson led through 600m (1:26.46), by which point Audrey Werro and Addison Wiley had almost caught up with Getachew. There was no catching the double world medallist, though, who powered around the final circuit to win in 1:55.30. Less than an hour later, Hodgkinson went on to run a 50.10 split in the 4x400m.
Werro finished second in 1:56.64, elevating the Swiss athlete to fifth on the world all-time list. Wiley took bronze in a PB of 1:58.36.
&ldquo;There has been a lot going on in the last hour, everything seems a bit blurry to me,&rdquo; said Hodgkinson, whose training partner Georgia Hunter Bell won the 1500m just moments prior. &ldquo;This is my first world title. I have been in so many finals, I have been a favourite so many times and I had not won, so to do that and prove to myself that I can do it, remove the pressure and win the gold, it's nice.&rdquo;

Hodgkinson smashes championship record to win 800m in Kujawy Pomorze

Seventeen-year-old US phenomenon Cooper Lutkenhaus made athletics history at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Sunday (22).
Just seven months after turning professional, he belied his years to defeat a stacked field in the men&rsquo;s 800m and become the youngest individual male winner of any event at a World Championships, indoors or out.
At the halfway point, the race had a predictable look as Belgium&rsquo;s Eliott Crestan, seeking world indoor gold after successive bronze and silver in 2024 and 2025, took the lead as he had done in both previous rounds.
Then it all changed as Lutkenhaus &ndash; who had looked overawed last year when he became the youngest US man to compete at the World Championships in Tokyo &ndash; calmly took over a lead which he never looked remotely like conceding before crossing, perhaps just a little bewildered, in 1:44.24.
Not that the time was out of his normal ambit &ndash; he had clocked a world U18 best of 1:42.27 at the 2025 US Championships to earn his place at the World Championships later that year.
Crestan looked stunned after picking up a second successive silver in 1:44.38, with Spain&rsquo;s Mohamed Attaoui being rewarded for a smart race by taking bronze in 1:44.66 &ndash; his first global medal.
Australia&rsquo;s 2022 Commonwealth silver medallist Peter Bol missed out on a medal by one place but had the consolation of setting an Oceanian indoor record of 1:45.14.
"I came out here thinking I probably wasn't the favourite, but any time I feel like I can step into a final I have a chance to win,&rdquo; Lutkenhus said.
&ldquo;Maybe it came from confidence or maybe from being too young but I really wanted to try to make a defining move. I believed in that on the third lap &ndash; I just wanted to try to take it from there.
&ldquo;I'm so surprised by how much support I received from everybody around me being a teenager and starting to compete at the senior level &ndash; the highest level. I heard guys yelling for me from the infield for the whole race, especially in the last 150m. They got me to the finish line in first position. Team USA has such a great group together."
Crestan commented: "I am happy with the medal of course, but right after the race I felt a little bit of disappointment. But Cooper's acceleration was very strong &ndash; he is an incredible talent, winning at 17 years of age. I think he can be the future David Rudisha.&rdquo;

Teenager Lutkenhaus makes history with world indoor 800m win in Kujawy Pomorze

Two years after taking gold on home soil, Molly Caudery repeated her feat by winning the women&rsquo;s pole vault at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Sunday (22).
Caudery and Slovenia&rsquo;s Tina Sutej matched one another at their opening heights, both clearing 4.35m, 4.55m, and 4.70m. They were among nine women to clear 4.70m &ndash; record depth for an indoor competition, and a standard only previously achieved at the 2024 Olympics.
The bar moved to 4.80m and Sutej and Caudery once again got over it on their first attempts. The seven other women who remained in the contest at that height were unsuccessful in their attempts to clear it, and it meant that bronze was shared by Switzerland&rsquo;s Angelica Moser, Czechia&rsquo;s Amalie Svabikova and New Zealand&rsquo;s Imogen Ayris.
With just Sutej and Caudery left in the competition, the bar moved to 4.85m. Both women failed their first attempts, but Caudery cleared it on her second try. Sutej was unsuccessful with her remaining jumps, meaning Caudery was confirmed the winner.
After winning world indoor gold in 2024, Caudery failed to clear her opening height at the Olympic Games later that year. She finished just shy of the medals at the 2025 World Indoors, then was a late withdrawal from the World Championships in Tokyo.
&ldquo;This gold means so much more this time,&rdquo; said the 26-year-old. &ldquo;I had a really tough two years so I really needed this. To turn the table around and win the title means a lot.
&ldquo;I have been doing a lot of mental preparation and I knew I could jump high &ndash; that was not an issue for me at all today,&rdquo; added Caudery, whose 4.85m vault was her highest jump in a championships. &ldquo;Coming back to competition after injury in Tokyo has been a graft.&rdquo;
While disappointed to miss out on gold, Sutej was content to claim a third world indoor medal. &ldquo;Today, I was so close to upgrading my collection,&rdquo; said the 37-year-old. &ldquo;I came to Torun like an event leader but something went wrong at 4.85m. It's not easy for me to compete with girls who are younger 10 or 15 years than me but I am proud I am still very competitive.&rdquo;

Caudery regains world indoor pole vault title in Kujawy Pomorze

After finishing just shy of the medals in 2024 and then making it on to the podium in 2025, Georgia Hunter Bell graduated to the top of the podium in the women&rsquo;s 1500m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26.
The Briton kept her cool in a race where Birke Haylom ran away from the field in the first half. The Ethiopian powered through 400m in 1:02.32 and 800m in 2:05.30, by which point she had a 3.31-second lead over the rest of the field.
Hunter Bell and Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull led the chase pack, which was operating at a swift pace, but still some way off catching Haylom.
They kept their cool, though, and started to make inroads with each lap. With 400 metres to go, Haylom&rsquo;s lead was down to 2.20 seconds with Hunter Bell, Hull and European indoor champion Agathe Guillemot chasing hard.
Hunter Bell finally caught Haylom with just under a lap to go. The Briton hit the front and brought Hull, Guillemot and USA&rsquo;s Nikki Hiltz with her. With the finish line in sight, no one could catch the Briton, who crossed the line in a world-leading 3:58.53, a national indoor record which moves her to ninth on the world indoor all-time list.
Hull, who had earned bronze in the 3000m 24 hours prior, bagged silver with an Oceanian indoor record of 3:59.45 and Hiltz took bronze in an indoor PB of 3:59.68. Guillemot, who was caught just before the finish line, missed out on a medal but was rewarded with a French indoor record of 3:59.71.
&ldquo;This victory is so sweet,&rdquo; said Hunter Bell, the world 800m silver medallist and Olympic 1500m bronze medallist. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s such a relief to win a gold medal. I knew I had to prepare mentally before coming here as a favourite. Last year in Apeldoorn (at the European Indoor Championships) I was fourth so I am really happy I progressed and I&rsquo;m really proud of myself to stay calm.&rdquo;

Hunter Bell claims first global title with 1500m gold in Kujawy Pomorze

Mariano Garcia, famed for his motorbike moves before starting his races, cruised to gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26, becoming the first Spaniard to win the men&rsquo;s 1500m title.
Since winning the world indoor 800m title in 2022 Garcia, now 28, has endured several years of injury but his career is now back at the heights.
And he produced a performance of poise and confidence to take this race on from the start and finish beyond the reach of a talented field that included the Portuguese athlete seeking to add a world indoor gold to the world outdoor one in Tokyo last year, Isaac Nader.
Nader turned on his trademark power over the final 100 metres but he was unable to make any impression upon the man who had floated clear of the dawdling pack from 300 metres in.
Garcia looked over both shoulders so vigorously with 35 metres to go that he looked momentarily as if he might put himself out of his stride, but he resumed before crossing the line in jubilant fashion in 3:39.63.
Nader, who had spent much time manoeuvring and running wide in order to tee up his challenge, looked deflated as he crossed for silver in 3:40.06.
By contrast, the bronze medallist &ndash; Australia&rsquo;s Adam Spencer &ndash; looked elated as he sneaked through on the inside to cross in 3:40.26 after it looked as if third place was being disputed by Sweden&rsquo;s Samuel Pihlstrom, who finished fourth in 3:40.59, just 0.004 ahead of the Dutch European indoor 800m champion, Samuel Chapple.
"It's my first year seriously preparing for the 1500m and what better way than winning a world indoor championships?&rdquo; said Garcia after becoming the first athlete to win world indoor titles at 800m and 1500m. &ldquo;Hopefully, in the coming years I will stay at this level because I'm still a rookie; they don't really know me yet. In this race, nobody had me under control but I think from now on my rivals will be watching me more closely.
&ldquo;I just wanted to sneak into the final and see if I could fight for a medal, but when I found myself leading, I said that now I can fight for gold.
&ldquo;In the end, that is exactly what I did. I was ready even for Nader's kick. That is why I made a very long attack. It was a bit risky but I'm in a very good physical shape."
A despondent Nader commented: &ldquo;I'm disappointed. If you are the world outdoor champion, your goal is to always win the race. Silver doesn't feel good enough. It's a very difficult situation knowing that you gave so much and got so little in return.
&ldquo;My goal was to make history and become only the third athlete to win both the indoor and outdoor world 1500m titles. Today, the Spanish athlete was better but it&rsquo;s sport and I made a tactical mistake. I planned to be on the front of the race in the last 200m but I didn't do it.&rdquo;
Spencer added: "I cannot believe I have a world medal now. I started my year with a slow 3000m, which would not have got me anywhere close to qualifying for this event. My goal for this race was to stay near the front and not make too many moves.
&ldquo;The way the race developed, I stayed a bit further back but thankfully things opened up towards the end and I managed to get through. I have lots of experience from the NCAA, where races are often tactical, so that helped.&rdquo;

Garcia gains 1500m gold at Kujawy Pomorze

World heptathlon champion Anna Hall ran herself into the ground at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 in an attempt to add a second global gold &ndash; but even a championship best performance of 2:06.32 in the pentathlon&rsquo;s concluding 800m could not wrest victory away from Sofie Dokter.
The 23-year-old Dutch athlete, who earned world indoor bronze in 2024 and European indoor silver last year, finally had the breakthrough gold she craved after a day of audacious effort.
For the champion-to-be, four rounds of dramatic pre-800m endeavour had culminated in a third and final long jump of 6.52m which, given Hall&rsquo;s best of 6.21m, meant she had a 7.5-second advantage over the US athlete in the final foot race.
Hall knew what she had to do &ndash; and set off with characteristic boldness and guts. She was a world away from the rest of the field and dragged herself to the best 800m time ever seen in this competitive context.
But Dokter, who had been able to gain some support from runners around her, did enough to maintain her prime position as she finished in 2:10.86 to earn a winning total of 4888, a world-leading score.
Hall&rsquo;s closing effort was not in vain, however, as it was enough to lift her above the Irish athlete who took silver behind her at the World Championships last year, Kate O&rsquo;Connor, who had run a personal best of 2:10.26.
Hall took silver with 4860, with O&rsquo;Connor third in a national record of 4839.
Missing out on a medal by one place &ndash; and just one point &ndash; was home athlete Adrianna Sulek-Schubert, who totalled 4638, with Hungary&rsquo;s Szabina Szucs finishing fifth in a personal best of 4618.
Hall had spoken beforehand about her eagerness to embrace her first World Indoor Championships, and she started well in the 60m hurdles, clocking 8.18 to Dokter&rsquo;s PB of 8.19.
Szucs was third fastest in a personal best of 8.21, with Beatrice Juskeviciute of Lithuania and O&rsquo;Connor clocking 8.23.
Dokter topped the pile in the high jump with a season&rsquo;s best of 1.87m, with Hall second on 1.84m and Sulek-Schubert and O&rsquo;Connor on 1.81m.
Greece&rsquo;s Anastasiya Ntragkomirova was the top performer in the shot put with an effort of 15.40m, but the biggest noise was made for home favourite Sulek-Schubert as she kept her medal challenge alive with a personal best of 14.89.
O&rsquo;Connor also excelled with a personal best of 14.70m, third best. Hall was fifth with 14.23m and Dokter maintained her lead with 13.92m.
Dokter excelled again in the long jump, posting the best mark of the day with a season&rsquo;s best of 6.52m. Hall responded with a final-round effort of 6.21m and O&rsquo;Connor jumped 6.38m to remain in medal contention.
Dokter&rsquo;s points advantage heading for the concluding 800m represented 7.5 seconds. Hall&rsquo;s outdoor PB was significantly better, but the margin indoors was smaller.
So Dokter led into the final event with a leading total of 3956, with O&rsquo;Connor second on 3878, Hall on 3841 and home athlete Adrianna Sulek-Schubert fourth on 3718. Everything was set for a finale that did not disappoint.
&ldquo;I still cannot believe I am the world champion,&rdquo; said Dokter. &ldquo;This is definitely the greatest day of my athletics career so far.
&ldquo;The moment when I believed I could win was after the long jump. After the final attempt, I told myself it was possible but I know Anna is super-fast in the 800m and I could not take it for granted.&rdquo;
Hall, meanwhile, was unsparing in her self-criticism: "All of my events were below my expectations. In my eyes such performance is completely unacceptable. I&rsquo;m going to evaluate what went wrong and fix it so it does not happen again.
&ldquo;Silver in Torun is one of those bittersweet things because I never take winning a medal for my country for granted. At the same time, I know I'm capable of more. I think over the last two weeks we had some things go wrong in our preparation. I just need to do a better job of handling that going forward."

Two more crowns were claimed on the third and final morning of competition at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Sunday (22).
Tom Walsh made World Indoor Championships history, retaining his title in the shot put for his seventh world indoor medal &ndash; more than any other male athlete.
Agate De Sousa secured her first global medal in style &ndash; getting gold in the long jump.
Competition continues in the pentathlon, while athletes contested the first rounds of the women&rsquo;s 60m hurdles, and the women&rsquo;s and men&rsquo;s 4x400m.

<h2>Gold again for Walsh</h2>
New Zealand&rsquo;s Tom Walsh earned a record-breaking seventh world indoor medal when winning gold in the men&rsquo;s shot put.
The 34-year-old &ndash; who also won world indoor titles in 2016, 2018 and 2025 &ndash; now owns more world indoor medals than any male athlete in history.
USA&rsquo;s Jordan Geist took an early lead with his opening effort of 21.64m. He followed it with several big throws, some close to 22 metres, but they were fouls. Walsh, meanwhile, improved steadily throughout the competition, opening with 20.59m before improving to 21.21m in round two and 21.28m in round four.
The defending champion took the lead in round five with his effort of 21.66m. USA&rsquo;s Roger Steen produced his best mark in the final round, consolidating his third place with 21.49m, then Geist rounded out his series with 21.38m.
With the title secured, Walsh saved his best for last and hurled his shot out to a season&rsquo;s best of 21.82m.

<h2>De Sousa soars to long jump title</h2>
Portugal&rsquo;s Agate De Sousa won an exciting long jump final to ensure her first global medal was a gold one.
By jumping 6.92m in the fifth round, the European bronze medallist took the title ahead of Italy&rsquo;s Larissa Iapichino and Colombia&rsquo;s Natalia Linares.
Iapichino saved her best for last, jumping 6.87m in the final round to secure silver for her first global medal, while Linares added world indoor bronze with a leap of 6.80m to the medal of the same colour she claimed in Tokyo last year &ndash; a first ever world indoor medal for Colombia.

<h2>Pentathlon too close to call</h2>
World champion Anna Hall made a promising start to her first pentathlon on the global stage by speeding to an 8.18 clocking in the 60m hurdles, the fastest time of the day, then followed it with 1.84m in the high jump.
Sofie Dokter, the 2024 world indoor bronze medallist, was just behind Hall in the 60m hurdles (8.19) but went higher in the high jump (1.87m), putting the Dutch athlete in the lead after two disciplines.
World silver medallist Kate O&rsquo;Connor also got off to a strong start, clocking 8.23 in the hurdles and clearing 1.81m in the high jump. She followed it with a 14.65m PB in the shot put, putting her ahead of the pace she set when taking silver in Nanjing last year.
Dokter maintained her overall lead after the shot put, thanks to a 13.92m throw, but Hall closed the gap with her 14.26m effort, keeping her in second place. Home favourite Adrianna Sulek-Schubert moved up the standings after unleashing a shot put PB of 14.89m, putting her in fourth place behind O&rsquo;Connor.
With two disciplines to go, just 67 points separate the top four athletes.

<h2>In the rounds</h2>
Women&rsquo;s 60m hurdles: Bahamian world record-holder Devynne Charlton cruised through the 60m hurdles heats to begin the defence of her title. The two-time world indoor champion clocked 7.82 to win the fourth heat, the same time as Nadine Visser in winning the fifth. World champion Ditaji Kambundji and home favourite Pia Skrzyszowska won won their heats in 7.84, while Alia Armstong topped her race in 7.85 and Megan Simmonds clocked 7.89 to also clinch a heat victory.
Women&rsquo;s 4x400m: Poland delighted the home fans, going quickest overall in the heats. The quartet, anchored by Justyna Święty-Ersetic, clocked 3:28.06 to win the first heat ahead of the Netherlands (3:28.11). Defending champions USA won the second heat in 3:28.36 ahead of Great Britain in 3:29.31 and they will be joined in the final by Slovak Republic, who set a national record of 3:29.87, and Spain.
Men&rsquo;s 4x400m: Netherlands and Belgium won the two heats, respectively clocking 3:04.66 and 3:05.25 ahead of Portugal in 3:04.75 and Hungary in 3:05.67, both national records. USA, defending champions and 12-time winners of this title, were run out of the top two automatic qualifying spots but as their 3:04.85 came in the quicker first heat, they advanced on time along with Jamaica (3:05.68).

Walsh makes World Indoor Championships history on final morning in Kujawy Pomorze

New Zealand&rsquo;s Tom Walsh, the oldest man in the shot put final at 34, finished as the highest man at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 as he retained his title with a grandstand finish to secure a fourth gold and a seventh medal in his competition &ndash; a men&rsquo;s record.
For four rounds Jordan Geist of the United States occupied first place thanks to an opening 21.64m which was followed by three huge fouls.
But part-time builder Walsh &ndash; who won the world outdoor title back in 2017 and who will seek a third consecutive Commonwealth title in Glasgow later this year &ndash; kept laying brick upon brick to get closer to the US thrower.
Walsh took the lead in round five by two centimetres with an effort of 21.66m. Geist fouled again with the last throw of the round, and could only manage 21.36m next time round to leave Walsh as champion once again.
By way of celebration, Walsh finished like the true champion he is by registering a season&rsquo;s best of 21.82m.
Geist thus took silver ahead of the man who beat him to the US indoor title this year and who arrived here with the second best mark of the season, 22.07m, but who on his occasion had to settle for bronze with a final-round best of 21.49m.
Walsh, who earned Olympic bronze medals in 2016 and 2021, thus made history with a world indoor record that consists of four golds &ndash; from 2016, 2018, 2025 and 2026 &ndash; a silver in 2024 and bronzes from 2022 and 2014. It all began for him in Poland &ndash; but who will say it ended here?
Maria Mutola of Mozambique holds the record for world indoor medals with nine. But no man other than Walsh has bettered a total of six.
Missing out on a medal by one place was another of this competition&rsquo;s elder statesmen, 32-year-old Briton Scott Lincoln, who produced the performance of his life to register 21.13m &ndash; a personal best by one centimetre.
Surprisingly Leonardo Fabbri, the Italian who leads this year&rsquo;s world list on 22.50m, and who earned bronze in 2024, failed to fire properly and missed the final round, finishing seventh with 20.92m.
Fifth and sixth places were filled by Sweden&rsquo;s Wictor Petersson on 21.12m and the third US athlete in the field, Josh Awotunde, on 20.96m.
Home thrower Konrad Bukowiecki raised hopes in the arena with a second-round effort of 20.62m but could not find another scoring effort, finishing eighth.

New Zealand’s Tom Walsh earned a record-breaking seventh world indoor medal 

Walsh takes fourth world indoor shot put title in Kujawy Pomorze

Portugal&rsquo;s Agate De Sousa won an exciting long jump final to ensure her first global medal was a gold one on the final morning of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Sunday (22).
By jumping 6.92m in the fifth round, she took the title ahead of Italy&rsquo;s Larissa Iapichino and Colombia&rsquo;s Natalia Linares.
Iapichino saved her best for last, jumping 6.87m in the final round to secure silver for her first global medal, while Linares added world indoor bronze with a leap of 6.80m to the medal of the same colour she claimed in Tokyo last year.
De Sousa started as the world leader thanks to the indoor PB of 6.97m she set in Madrid last month.
It was Linares who had the early lead, jumping 6.79m from her first attempt &ndash; a single centimetre farther than Sweden&rsquo;s Khaddi Sagnia. The Colombian&nbsp;athlete, who secured world U20 silver in 2022, extended her lead by one centimetre with her next attempt before De Sousa soared into top spot with 6.82m in the third round.
The competition came alive in the fifth round. Iapichino, the European silver medallist who finished fourth at the Paris Olympics, took a few attempts to get warmed up but she launched herself from seventh to first in the fifth round &ndash; landing at 6.84m.
Sagnia fouled and Linares jumped 6.61m before De Sousa posted her response &ndash; 6.92m for the second-best indoor mark of her career.
As they each took their final attempts, Sagnia and Linares could not improve, confirming Linares as the bronze medallist. Iapichino improved by three centimetres but it wasn&rsquo;t quite enough and De Sousa closed her campaign with a final leap of 6.65m, adding world indoor gold to her World University Games title from last year and the European bronze she claimed behind Iapichino in Rome in 2024.
&ldquo;Today, I did not think about my opponents and just competed with myself and nobody else,&rdquo; said De Sousa, who was born in S&atilde;o Tom&eacute; and Pr&iacute;ncipe and represented the nation at the African Games. In winning gold in Kujawy Pomorze, she follows in the footsteps of the 2008 champion Naide Gomes, who also grew up in the Central African island country before moving to Portugal and getting long jump gold for that nation.
&ldquo;I came here to jump seven metres and that was all I had in my mind. It did not come today but I know that it will come again. This is a gold medal so I am sure it will change my life in a positive way.
&ldquo;The most beloved place for me is my country (S&atilde;o Tom&eacute; and Pr&iacute;ncipe) &ndash; I try to go there every year. My mother and father are still there. It is not that tough because I also have another family in Portugal and I speak with my parents via phone every day. Of course, they are watching at home &ndash; they sent me some messages before the competition.&rdquo;
Iapichino was pleased to add a global silver to her medal collection, improving on the mark but not the medal claimed by her mother Fiona May when she jumped 6.86m to win the 1997 title.
&ldquo;I finally did it, a world championship medal,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I have been chasing it for years &ndash; it was a messy competition, but that is fine.
&ldquo;My mother won the world indoor title as well as many other medals and I hope one day I can match her achievements.&rdquo;
With bronze, Linares made history for her nation by claiming Colombia&rsquo;s first ever World Indoor Championships medal.
"I'm glad I was able to pair it with the bronze medal from the 2025 World Championships. Of course, that experience from Tokyo gave me much more confidence," she said. "Colombian triple jump legend Caterine Ibarg&uuml;en is still my idol and she opened the path for us. Now we are here in the long jump and I hope my example will open the path for other Colombian women."

The United States won the women's 4x400m title at the World Indoor Championships for the sixth time. This was the United States' fifth gold medal of the championships (5-7-6), putting them top of the medal table ahead of Great Britain (4-0-0) and Italy (3-2-0)
Spain won their first ever medal in the women's 4x400m with bronze. This was the first time Spain has contested a women's 4x400m final at a World Indoor Championships since 1991 when the event was added to the programme
World indoor 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson (GBR) ran the fastest individual leg of the entire championships - heats and final - with 50.10 on the anchor leg. This was the second fastest leg in World Indoor Championships behind Natalya Nazarova (RUS) who clocked 49.89 on the anchor leg in 2004
Men's 4x400m final
The United States won gold in a championship record of 3:01.52, just 0.01 shy of the world indoor record of 3:01.51 which was set in 2019 (the fastest ever time set indoor is 3:00.77 from 2018 but was not ratified). Khaleb McRae closed with a 44.65 anchor leg
This was the United States' 12th gold medal from 19 4x400m finals at the World Indoor Championships
Men's long jump final
Gerson Balde (POR) becomes the first Portuguese winner of the men's long jump title at the World Indoor Championships and completes a Portuguese double with Agate de Sousa winning the women's long jump final
Balde's winning jump of 8.46m was the equal fifth longest winning jump in World Indoor Championships history and the longest jump ever recorded on Polish soil
Women's pole vault final
Molly Caudery (GBR) becomes just the third woman to win multiple world indoor pole vault titles after Yelena Isinbayeva (RUS) and Sandi Morris (USA)
Tina Sutej (SLO), who is the oldest athlete registered for an individual event at the 2026 World Indoor Championships, won her third world indoor medal with silver at 37y/135d. "Everyone says about my age - I know that I'm the oldest in the field but I feel good, I jump high and I am going to continue at this level as long as I enjoy the competitions. I want to keep going and get my mark closer to five metres," she said
For the second time at the 2026 World Indoor Championships, there was a three-way tie for a medal. After three jumpers shared silver in the women's high jump, there was a three-way tie for the bronze medal&nbsp;

Dokter's score of 4888 points was the fifth highest score in World Indoor Championships history. Her winning margin of 28 points over Anna Hall (USA) was the third smallest in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships&nbsp;

Devynne Charlton (BAH) equals her world indoor record of 7.65 to become the first three-time winner of the women's 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships. "I knew I had run the world record, I knew I had it when I crossed the finish line. I know I could have run a bit faster too but, not having the best start, I will take it," she said.
Charlton equals her world record of 7.65 from the 2024 World Indoor Championships. She holds three of the four fastest winning times in World Indoor Championships history (7.65, 7.65, 7.72)

"I came out here thinking I probably wasn't the favourite but any time I feel like I can step into a final I have a chance to win," he said.&nbsp;
Lutkenhaus&rsquo; winning time of 1:44.24 is the second fastest winning time in World Indoor Championships history behind Wilson Kipketer (DEN) who won gold in 1997 in 1:42.67, a world record until this year

Georgia Hunter Bell&rsquo;s (GBR) winning time of 3:58.53 is the third fastest in World Indoor Championships history behind Gudaf Tsegay&rsquo;s championship record of 3:54.86 from 2025 and her 3:57.19 clocking from 2022
Hunter Bell becomes the first Brit - male or female - to win a world indoor 1500m title
After winning bronze in the 3000m final, Jessica Hull (AUS) upgraded to silver in the 1500m. She is the only athlete to win two individual medals at the 2026 World Indoor Championships
Agathe Guillemot (FRA) becomes the first athlete to break the 4:00-barrier at the World Indoor Championships but not come away with a medal. Her time of 3:59.71 for fourth was the fastest ever non-medal winning time in the 1500m
Three of the top four athletes set national records: 1. Hunter Bell (3:58.53), 2. Hull (3:59.35), 4. Guillemot (3:59.71). Hull's time was also an area record, becoming the first Oceanian to break the 4:00-barrier indoors
After bravely leading through 800m in 2:05.30, Birke Haylom (ETH) faded to fifth. This means Ethiopia will leave the World Indoor Championships without any sort of medal for the first time since Lisbon in 2001&nbsp;
Men's 1500m final
Mariano Garcia (ESP) becomes the first athlete in World Indoor Championships history to win titles at both 800m and 1500m. He had previously won the 800m title in 2022. "It's my first year seriously preparing for the 1500m and what better way than winning a world indoor championships. Hopefully, in the coming years I will stay at this level because I'm still a rookie they don't really know me yet," he said&nbsp;
Garcia also becomes the first Spaniard to win the 1500m title at the World Indoor Championships. Spain had previously won four silver medals and two bronze medals in the men&rsquo;s 1500m
In total, Spain have won 48 medals at the World Indoor Championships but this was only their fourth gold medal. Aside from Garcia's two gold medals, Spain also won the 800m in 1985 (Colomon Trabado) and the shot put in 2003 (Manuel Martinez)
Garcia closed with a last 800m of 1:48.28, a last 400m of 53.09 and a last 200m of 26.62

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe today accepted historic donations on behalf of the <a href="https://tinyurl.com/visitMOWA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Museum of World Athletics (MOWA)</a> from six world champions during a special ceremony at the Toruń Plaza shopping centre.
The event, held within the MOWA Indoor Athletics Exhibition Kujawy Pomorze 26, celebrated both the global reach of indoor track and field and Polish athletics history. <a href="https://worldathletics.org/pl/competitions/world-athletics-indoor-championships/kujawypomorze26/news/news/mowa-officially-opened-at-torun-plaza" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Officially opened on 20 February</a>, the exhibition has been a focal point for athletics fans and the general public alike, highlighting the widespread passion for the sport ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
&ldquo;From donations of historic competition items generously given to the Museum of World Athletics by six world champions, to the honouring of Poland's first ever men&rsquo;s Olympic champion across all sports, this afternoon&rsquo;s MOWA ceremony celebrated our sport&rsquo;s rich history,&rdquo; said Coe.
&ldquo;The MOWA Indoor Athletics Exhibition Kujawy Pomorze 26, which over the last month has been viewed by more than 55,000 visitors to the Torun Plaza shopping centre, has emphatically confirmed the deep culture and love of track and field athletics which thrives in Poland.&rdquo;
<h2>A gathering of champions</h2>
Six iconic athletes, each of whom has left an indelible mark on the history of indoor athletics, took to the stage to personally hand over competition items from their careers to Coe. Following each donation, World Athletics Heritage Director Chris Turner presented each athlete with an exclusive MOWA Donor&rsquo;s Pin, a unique mark of distinction for those who contribute to the museum's collection, helping to preserve athletics history.
Sebastian Chmara gave his bodysuit and diploma from his 1999 world indoor heptathlon title, the first ever Polish victory at the World Indoor Championships.
&ldquo;That victory (in 1999) was an important part of my life,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Staying in athletics after retirement is the best channel for an athlete because you&rsquo;ve met so many people and made so many friends, it&rsquo;s important to give back to the sport.&rdquo;
Nelli Cooman, the two-time world indoor 60m gold medallist from the Netherlands, donated her golden spike shoes which she wore in 1986 when setting the world indoor 60m record (7.00), and her 1985 European Indoor Championships winning uniform and bib and leg numbers.
&ldquo;I was always more competitive indoors because you can prepare for much longer time during fall and winter before the World Indoor Championships, compared to only two months remaining before the outdoor season,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve changed my hairstyle since I retired but when people in Netherlands hear my voice, people shout Hey, it&rsquo;s Nelli Cooman!&rdquo;
Daniel Komen, the 1997 world 5000m champion and multiple world record-breaker from Kenya, presented his 5000m world indoor record spikes from 1998.
&ldquo;Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but what remains his friendship &ndash; that&rsquo;s what sport is about; bringing people together,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Haile (Gebrselassie) is now a great friend, even though we were great rivals on the track.&rdquo;

Adam Kszczot of Poland donated the singlet we wore during his 2018 world indoor 800m win.
&ldquo;MOWA lives and breathes history of our sport, and will be there for future generations of athletes and fans,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;These are the last pieces of uniform I have from Birmingham (2018 World Indoor Championships); I&rsquo;ve given my spikes and all my other things from those championships to schools and athletics clubs to inspire and that&rsquo;s why I&rsquo;m giving this shirt to MOWA, to encourage others in the future.&rdquo;
Algeria&rsquo;s Noureddine Morceli, the 1996 Olympic, three-time world outdoor and 1991 world indoor 1500m champion, contributed by giving with his Tokyo 1991 World Championships singlet, bib, shorts and spikes.
&ldquo;There is a bond among the world mile record holders,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a record I knew had to break in my career, I tried many times and finally managed to enter the club along with Seb Coe and Steve Ovett.&rdquo;
Paweł Wojciechowski, the 2011 world pole vault gold medallist from Poland, presented a personalised pole vault pole sleeve used during the 2018 to 2021 seasons.
&ldquo;In my youth my hero was Sergey Bubka of course, and when I won my world title in 2011, I was very lucky that Mondo Duplantis was only 13 years old,&rdquo; he joked. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m loving being an ambassador of these World Indoor Championships in my home region, though I&rsquo;m happy I&rsquo;m an exhausted organiser!&rdquo;
<h2>Honouring Janusz Kusociński</h2>
The ceremony took a poignant turn with the posthumous awarding of the World Athletics Heritage Plaque in the &lsquo;Legend&rsquo; category to <a href="https://worldathletics.org/heritage/plaque/list/janusz-kusocinski" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Janusz Kusociński</a>.
Kusociński was Poland&rsquo;s first male Olympic gold medallist in any sport, winning the 10,000m at the 1932 Los Angeles Games in an Olympic record time. His life was tragically cut short during World War II when he was executed for his role in the Polish resistance.
Sebastian Chmara, in his capacity as President of the Polish Athletics Association and Meeting Director of the Kusociński Memorial, accepted the plaque from Coe. The honour serves as a lasting tribute to a man whose bravery on and off the track remains a cornerstone of Polish sporting identity.
The involvement of the host region was symbolised by the donation of the official championships&rsquo; mascot, Goosia. Assisted by six young athletes from the local MKL Toruń club, Valerie Adams, four-time world indoor shot put champion and Athlete Ambassador, carried the mascot costume on to the stage.
Piotr Całbecki, Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Region, and Krzysztof Wolsztyński, President of the LOC, officially presented the costume, along with a championships medal and relay baton, to the MOWA. In recognition of their vital support in staging the MOWA exhibition, they were each presented with commemorative World Athletics Heritage Trophies by Coe.
During the last month, the MOWA exhibition in Torun has acted as a bridge between the legends of the past and the stars of the present, ensuring that the stories of these champions and the spirit of Polish athletics continue to inspire the next generation.
