With the finish line imminent, two of the road running stars of 2021 have spoken out with their support for the Global Conversation.
World marathon record-holder and last weekend’s winner of the NN Mission Marathon in the Netherlands, Eliud Kipchoge, and Beth Potter, who set the fastest time ever for a European woman over 5km in the UK also earlier this month, have urged all followers of athletics to take part in the unprecedented worldwide survey.
“I am recovering well,” said Kipchoge in a video released by Athletics Kenya. “But I still have one more mission - to complete World Athletics’ Global Conversation survey. Have you?”

Kipchoge has had 18 years at the top of the sport as a track athlete and latterly on the roads where he has dominated over the marathon distance, setting the world record of 2:01:39 in winning the 2018 Berlin Marathon. He also unofficially became the first man to run under two hours for the marathon when clocking 1:59:40 at the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in 2019.
Potter is another athlete who has broken boundaries in recent times. The Great Britain and Northern Ireland runner was a 10,000m finalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2016 Olympic Games and 2017 World Championships before transferring her attention to triathlon where she became European champion in 2019. She made a sensational return to high performance athletics this year when clocking a world-leading 14:41, albeit unratified, at the Podium 5k, Barrowford, on 3 April.
She told fans on Twitter and Instagram: “I’m here to encourage all athletes and anyone who has a passion for the sport to take part in the Global Conversation on the World Athletics website.”
