Notice of Road Closures during WCH Tokyo 25 Marathon & Race Walk Events
Due to the marathon and race walk events being held as part of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, road closures will be in effect at the times listed below.
Please be advised that significant congestion is expected in and around the affected areas. We kindly recommend allowing extra travel time and avoiding non-essential trips to the area during this period.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Schedule
- Saturday 13 September 7:30 start – men’s & women’s 35 km Race Walk
- Sunday 14 September 7:30 start – women’s Marathon
- Monday 15 September (Public Holiday) 7:30 start – men’s Marathon
- Saturday 20 September 7:30 start – women’s 20 km Race Walk, 9:50 start – men’s 20 km Race Walk
※Please note that although some flyers indicate a 9:45 AM start time for the Men's 20km Race Walk, the correct start time is 9:50 AM
※To protect athletes from expected heat risks, all road events during the first three days will start 30 minutes earlier. (as of 11 September)

Marathon course
Japan National Stadium (start) → Tomihisacho-W.→ Suidobashi → Jimbocho → Sudacho → Akihabara (first turning point) → Ginza 4-chome (second turning point) → Sudacho → Jimbocho → Tokyo Station Central Exit (third turning point) → Jimbocho→ Suidobashi → Tomihisacho-W.→ Japan National Stadium (finish).
Please note, the section in bold will be run twice.
20km Race Walk course
Japan National Stadium (start) → Aoyama Gate → Meijijingu Gaien→ Ginkgo Avenue (turning point) → Aoyama Gate (turning point) → Japan National Stadium (finish).
35km Race Walk course
Japan National Stadium (start) → Aoyama Gate → Turn right onto the Meijijingu Gaien Loop →Ginkgo Avenue (turning point) → Gaien Exit of the Metropolitan Expressway → Japan National Stadium (finish).
