The marathon and race walk courses for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 have been officially confirmed by World Athletics (WA) and the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF), and the course details have now been finalised. We are pleased to announce the confirmed courses, kilometer markers, and elevation maps. The part of the 20km race walk course has been modified from the route initially announced.
The marathon course has been recognised as a WA-certified course and an officially sanctioned JAAF course. The race walk courses have already been officially sanctioned by JAAF, and the WA certification process is underway and expected to be completed shortly. *On Monday 25 August, the WA certification was officially completed.
Course Modification:
20km Race Walk Course
・The north and south turnaround points have been moved approximately 80 meters south, with the south turnaround now aligned with that of the 35km race walk course.
Road race timetable at WCH Tokyo 25
DAY 1: Saturday 13 September 7:30am: women’s and men’s 35km race walk (simultaneously)
DAY 2: Sunday 14 September 7:30am: women’s marathon
DAY 3: Monday 15 September (public holiday) 7:30am: men’s marathon
DAY 8: Saturday 20 September 7:30am: women’s 20km race walk | 9:50am: men’s 20km race walk
NOTE) To protect athletes from expected heat risks, all road events during the first three days will start 30 minutes earlier. (as of 11 September)

Start with one and a quarter laps around the Japan National Stadium - Tomihisacho-W. - Suidobashi - Jimbocho - Sudacho - Akihabara (first turning point) - Ginza 4-chome (second turning point) - Sudacho - Jimbocho - Tokyo Station (third turning point) - Jimbocho - Suidobashi - Tomihisacho-W.- finish at the Japan National Stadium.
The bold sections above represent a loop course, which will be completed twice (as shown in purple on the course map).
Race walk

Start at the Japan National Stadium (35km race walk: 3 and three-quarter laps; 20km race walk: three-quarter lap) - Aoyama Gate - turn right on to the circular road around the Meijijingu Gaien - Ginkgo Avenue (south turning point) - South Aoyama Gate (20km race walk: north turning point on the course map shown in orange) / In front of the Gaien Exit (upbound) of the Metropolitan Expressway (35km race walk: north turning point on the course map shown in purple) - finish at the Japan National Stadium.
