Korir pulls out of marathon with leg injury

FacebookTwitterEmail

Kenyan Sammy Korir, the second fastest marathon runner ever, said on Thursday that a leg injury had forced him to pull out of the Athens Olympics.

The Kenyan team for the August 29 marathon had comprised
Korir, World record holder Paul Tergat, and 2000 Sydney silver and 1996 Atlanta Olympic bronze medallist Eric Wainaina.

"I pulled out because of injury," Korir told Reuters. "I'm disappointed."

Korir, who arrived in Kenya late on Wednesday after undergoing treatment in Italy, said he would be out of action for about six weeks.

Korir finished just one second behind Tergat when set his
World record of 2:04:55 in Berlin last year.
