World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 Goodwill Programme

World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 and the Civil Roads Foundation are proud to announce a goodwill partnership aimed at promoting social inclusion.

To ensure accessibility and social responsibility, thousands of individuals, including those with large families, children in foster care, people with disabilities, and others facing challenging circumstances, will have the opportunity to attend the World Championships in August for free. The esteemed Paralympic champion athlete, Luca Ekler, has been appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for this initiative.

The organisers of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest have placed great importance on their sustainability program, with a particular focus on social responsibility and inclusivity. Their goal is to make the largest sporting event in Hungary's history accessible to all, especially people facing various challenges.

To achieve this vision, the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 and the Civil Roads Foundation have launched a goodwill cooperation. Through this collaboration, thousands of individuals living in difficult situations will be able to attend the World Championships in August, facilitated by the Civil Roads Foundation's network of nearly 50 partner organisations. This initiative extends its reach to families with large households, children living in foster homes, people with disabilities, and even those children orphaned by Covid.

The announcement of this goodwill partnership took place today at a press conference held at the National Athletics Centre, attended by distinguished guests including Alexandra Szentkirályi, Government Spokesperson, Balázs Németh, CEO of Budapest 2023 NZrt, Réka Ruttkay, President of the Board of Trustees of the Civil Roads Foundation, and representatives of various NGOs.

"Our aim is to ensure that everyone becomes part of this exceptional event, welcoming the world as a unified community. We believe in building communities, spending time together, and sharing experiences. This is precisely what the Goodwill Partnership with the Civil Roads Foundation represents, as we provide free entry to the World Championships for thousands of people in need through the Foundation's network of 50 partner organisations," stated Alexandra Szentkirályi, Government Spokesperson.

"Our sustainability program encompasses not only environmental initiatives such as tree planting, forest restoration, and PET bottle collection, but also the endeavour to make the World Championships accessible to all, including those who may face obstacles in attending. Through the collaboration with the Civil Roads Foundation, we are proud to offer thousands of individuals the opportunity to witness the wonder of the World Championships in August," added Balázs Németh, CEO of Budapest 2023 Zrt.

Luca Ekler, the esteemed Paralympic Champion, World and European Champion, and world record holder Hungarian Para-athlete, has been appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the World Championships.

"As an athlete, I have always championed the importance of acceptance and equal opportunities. I am immensely proud to serve as an ambassador for the World Athletics Championships. The World Championships in Budapest will truly be the race of wonders, nine days filled with unforgettable experiences that should be witnessed by all. I am delighted that through the Goodwill program, thousands of people facing difficult circumstances will have the opportunity to experience this in person," said Luca Ekler.
