Two years after securing a silver medal at the World Championships in Oregon, Trey Cunningham is hoping to qualify for his first Olympic team.
The US 110m hurdler welcomes World Athletics Inside Track to a training session, where he explains how much it would mean to him to win a medal in Paris and how he tries to live his life without regret, something he has done successfully so far.
Starting out by explaining his master’s thesis, he says: “I looked to see if personality predisposes people to be burnt out, specifically athletes, and it does, come to find out.
“I’ve always been fascinated with the brain. People, connections, why people do things. I found out at the end of this, I was kind of writing about myself because I was a little bit burnt out.
“I’ve learned that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter what.
“The Olympics are the next thing I have to conquer. I haven’t done it yet. Making the team is one of the steps.
“I try to live my life with no regrets. I’ve successfully done that so far. I don’t want to be at the end of my life saying, ‘what if?’”
