Get to know the World Road Mile Championships course below and make sure to check out the rest of the courses as well - the 5 km and the Half-Marathon. Wouldn’t it be great to run all of them in Riga?
The Start of the Road Mile is right at the entrance of the National Arts Museum, a spectacular building from 1905, showcasing National art treasures.
The Wide start on Valdemāra street takes us to Lāčplēša (Bearslayer) street, which will mark the only up-hill section of the course right up to Brivības (Freedom) street, the central avenue of Riga.
After turning right on Freedom street, it’s all downhill passing Elisabeth street (or Riga Broadway as it used to be called in the 1920s), the Cabinet of Ministers, and finishing at the feet of the Monument of Freedom, Latvia’s national symbol. We could not possibly dream of a more spectacular finish for the world’s first Road Mile Championships!
Any recreational runner who is ready for a challenge can register for any of the official mass races in Riga and earn a unique medal from the World Athletics Road Running Championships.
