MORNING Session

 

Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis will be making his first appearance but could jump just once in the qualifying round as he looks to advance without trouble. 

 

Then it is the turn of the 200m to take the sprint spotlight, with day five featuring the first rounds in the women’s and men’s events. In the women’s heats, Shericka Jackson and Sha’Carri Richardson could be back in action. In the men’s event we could see 19-year-old Erriyon Knighton, the world U20 record-holder who has been declared the new Usain Bolt. But he will have to take on the third-fastest of all time, Noah Lyles, who is the defending champion and planning to hunt down Usain Bolt’s world record.

 

If they decide to double up, the women’s 5000m heats could see the return of Sifan Hassan, Gudaf Tsegay, Letesenbet Gidey and Beatrice Chebet as well.

 

In the women’s javelin, the two young Europeans Adriana Vilagos of Serbia and Elina Tzengko from Greece could make another step towards becoming star athletes. But Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi was almost unbeatable on this summer.

 

In the women’s 800m, three amazing talents will hope to take to the track. Athing Mu, Keely Hodgkinson and Mary Moraa will all be looking for an easy first round.
