Italy’s athletics federation has urged the sport to take advantage of a “period of change” in charting the future course of the sport. The Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera (FIDAL) website is trumpeting the Global Conversation as an opportunity for “all those who are part of the athletic universe” to contribute to the growth and development of the sport.
FIDAL president Stefano Mei said: "It is right to support the initiative by providing one's point of view. Our sport in Italy rests on solid foundations: a vast community that shares a love for athletics, light and the values that determined its birth and affirmation. But not only that: within it reside skills capable of tracing the path that leads to tomorrow.
“As an international federation – in the words of the president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe – we want our future projects to be based on the experiences and knowledge of our vast community, and for this reason we believe it is correct to give anyone with an interest in our sport the opportunity to express their point of view.
“We are living in a period of change, which presents challenges and opportunities at the same time: the latter can be grasped by listening to those who are involved, at every level, in athletics."
