Three North American road record-holders will headline USA’s team for the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26 on 19-20 September.

Weini Kelati, Conner Mantz and Yared Nuguse are among the 19 athletes selected for the event, which includes one mile, 5km and half marathon races.

Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Nuguse will compete in his first World Road Running Championships after qualifying in the mile. The North American record-holder will be joined by three-time US road mile champion Vincent Ciattei, who will make his US team debut.

Kelati and Mantz are both area record-holders in the half marathon, while Mantz also owns the North American marathon record.

Kelati, a 2024 Olympian in the 10,000m, leads a women’s half marathon squad that includes six other athletes from the USATF Half Marathon Championships. Scoring will be limited to Kelati and three athletes who were misdirected late in the race: Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley and Ednah Kurgat.

Joining Mantz on the men’s half marathon team are Wesley Kiptoo, Hillary Bor and Ahmed Muhumed.

US champion Drew Hunter has been confirmed on the men’s team for the 5km, joined by Dylan Jacobs. The women’s 5km team features Olympic and world 3000m steeplechase silver medallist Courtney Frerichs and Karissa Schweizer. On the women’s mile squad are Gracie Hyde and Addy Wiley.
