“Queen of sports” has spread its golden wings and brought 15 members of the national team to the champion flight. That is the largest number of sportspeople since Serbia became the independent country. The World Athletics Indoor Championships 2022 whose host will be Belgrade and Arena will begin in 7 days. From 18 to 20 March in the Serbian sports beauty more than 100 athletes and 140 coaches from the whole world will go out to the field of play and fight for new records and planetary gold. On the same path and with the same task, there will be 15 Serbian stars who will at the hosting Arena and in front of home audience try to write history of the world athletics.

The list of the Serbian record number national team members who will under the arches of the Arena defend colours of Serbia at the World Championships is, until now, made of: Ivana Vuleta (long jump), Asmir Kolasinac (shot put), Armin Sinancevic (shot put), Maja Ciric (400m), Elzan Bibic (1500m/3000m), Bosko Kijanovic (400m), and Anja Lukic (60m hurdles) who will compete at the WC Belgrade 2022 because they met qualification norms while other eight athletes of Serbia received “special invitations” from the World Athletics based on good results achieved during the season (Luka Trgovcevic (60m hurdles), Milana Tirnanic (60m), Jovana Ilic (triple jump), Aleksa Kijanovic (60m), Angelina Topic (high jump), Lazar Anic (long jump), Ivana Ilic (60m), and Milica Gardasevic (long jump).

Most of aforementioned Serbian national team members were seen by our audience at recently finished meeting from the silver category “Belgrade Indoor Meeting” which was the last control competition before the beginning of the World Championships for both domestic and numerous world champions and athletes. On 7 March 2022, the Arena already saw breaking of the world record in the discipline which, this year, celebrates 210 years since it was included in the official categories of the athletics competitions. “The sky jump” of the 22-year-old Swede, Armand Duplantis, of 6.19m is the new planetary record, which put our capital and our Arena on the athletics map of the world and in the history book of this sports to be there forever.

For a new champion scream which will mark a new record and won beautiful gold medal of WC 2022 which was designed with Belgrade landmarks and whose glow is eternal as is the emotion it brings with itself, marvellous Duplantis, Serbian athletics queen, Ivana Vuleta who is defending the world gold from Birmingham 2018, the world king in shot (weighing 7.257kg) put, American superstar Ryan Crouser, the fastest man on the planet, Italian Marcell Jacobs, Olympics and World record holders will fight, but what is especially joyful is the fact that 14 Serbian athletes who we will be eternally proud of will go out to the field of play.

Athletics rhapsody of Serbia gains its strength, dimension, and through a lot of work, faith, sacrifice, talent, love of all achievers of this sport in our country, works the way to the new, shiny future that everyone is dedicated to and believe in. It remains to us to believe in them, to enjoy and be proud of our athletes. Because they are here, stronger than ever, woven, and ready for new deeds!
