  • Maria Mutola (MOZ) is the most successful individual athlete in World Indoor Championships history, winning an incredible seven titles and nine medals (7-1-1) between 1993 and 2008
  • The three fastest times recorded in World Indoor Championships history all came in the final in Maebashi in 1999: 1. Ludmila Formanova (CZE) 1:56.90, 2. Maria Mutola (MOZ) 1:57.17, 3. Natalya Tsyganova (RUS) 1:57.47
  • Prudence Sekgodiso (RSA) became the first ever South African woman to win a world indoor title when she won the 800m in 2025. Three of South Africa’s four gold medals from the World Indoor Championships have all been won in the 800m

  • Can Keely Hodgkinson (GBR) become the first British winner of the women’s 800m title in World Indoor Championships history? Her coach Jenny Meadows won silver in 2010 behind Mariya Savinova (RUS) who was later banned

  • Hodgkinson won the European indoor 800m title on this track in 2021 four days after her 19th birthday. She became the youngest Brit to win a European indoor title since 1970
