Historic facts
- Ashton Eaton (USA) set the still-standing world heptathlon record of 6645 points at the 2012 World Indoor Championships in Istanbul
- Eaton almost broke his world record at the 2014 World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 6632 points
- The United States is the most successful nation with seven gold medals although their last title dates back to 2016 when Eaton won his third title
- Hosts Poland won this title back in 1999 when Sebastian Chmara (POL) won gold in Maebashi. In doing so he became the first ever Polish athlete to win a world indoor title in any event
Potential storylines and notes
- Can Simon Ehammer (SUI) regain his title from the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow? After day one, Ehammer scored 3698 points. He said: "So, the goal to beat the European record [6558 points] is still alive as well as the goal to beat Garland. He is not far away from me right now but I am faster over the hurdles, normally I'm better in the pole vault and we are very close over 1000m," he said after day one
- But a world indoor record is a possibility now after Ehammer started with 7.52 in the 60m hurdles (a world heptathlon best) and a 5.30m pole vault. He needs to run 2:43.26 in the 1000m. His PB is 2:41.76 from the 2025 European Indoor Championships
- Can Kyle Garland (USA) win the United States’ first gold medal in the event since 2016? He holds the second highest heptathlon score in history with 6639 points from the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships. Garland is second after day one with 3660 points
- Will the winnng score be in excess of Peyton Bair's world lead of 6503 points set at the NCAA Indoor Championships?
- Reigning champion Sander Skotheim (NOR) will not defend his title due to injury: “No indoor season. Unfortunately I got an injury in the ankle that requires a small surgery.”
- There won’t be any Polish representation in the heptathlon: Pawel Wiesiolek has retired and world U20 decathlon record-holder Hubert Troscianka tore an Achilles tendon in the heptathlon long jump at the Polish Indoor Championships
